Sorry for the poor photo. I was jumping around and screaming (as were most of the people in the neighborhood) and we only had just a very few seconds to see it before it passed behind the clouds.

Extremely excellent way to celebrate the 4th. All the best to the astronauts for a safe trip and return! :thumbsup2

Oh, AWESOME!!

Closest I've been is the Titusville exit on I-95. Got a lot closer (waterfront) for another launch but it was scrubbed just seconds before launch.

Was a beautiful launch.

C-SPAN will have more coverage again at 3:30pm EDT.

Awesome you live so close.

Was it loud?

You are so very lucky, Roberta!! I bet it was an awesome sight!!! :)

We're not really close at all so I didn't hear anything. My best guess is that I live at least 80 to 100 miles away from the launch site. That's why I was so excited to see it. When they launched last summer, we didn't see anything. :confused3

It was just wicked awesome!! :teeth:

Looks pretty awesome from my terrace, too! :thumbsup2

Very cool. My family saw a couple (I think) from the beach by my grandpa's house. I don't remember it myself since I was young, but we have pictures.

I just saw it on TV and it brought a tear to my eye...what a thing to watch.

:thumbsup2 :woohoo:

Safe travels to the crew of space shuttle Discovery!!

So glad they were able to launch! :thumbsup2 Safe travels through space!

I think I saw it.. lol...lots of clouds to my east so i barely saw the smoke trail going up way off in the distance. I was running from the tv to the front yard.
Happy 4th of July everyone!

We saw it from our backyard too. Pretty cool, huh?! I always forget to take a picture though. :sad2: Next time.

My DD's & I just watched it on tv. I got teared up too. For those who got to see it from their backyards, I am sooooo jealous! Thanks for posting the pics.

Roberta,

Wasn't it neat to watch? I'm probably 120 miles southwest of Kennedy-and what an awesome sight!

I didn't take pictures-wanted to soak in the view. Next time! :thumbsup2

This is one of those events that was on my life experiences list. :teeth: It was amazing. I bet a nighttime launch would really be unbelievable.

I'm still walking around the house yelling THAT WAS SO COOL!! :rotfl:

We ran outside and saw it too, it was amazing!!

We are about 30 miles away and we could see the huge fire in the sky, I wish I had gotten pictures!

Night launches are so much easier to see if you're not really close. We're about 130 miles south of Kennedy Space Center.
