After lurking and posting replies here and there on the food review board, I finally decided to do my very own review of the food while we were there last week (Jan 16-20). After much talking and looking at menus, we opted for the deluxe dining, because why not? We wanted a relaxing weekend getaway before the craziness of both of our works got out of hand over the next couple of months. And besides, it was our anniversary and my birthday weekend all rolled into one.:cool1: This was going to be the only time I was probably ever going to get there for my birthday and I was going to make it count. I don't think I have ever had so many cupcakes in my entire life!

So, without further adieu...the cast of characters:

Me - Turned 39 on this trip and love Alice in Wonderland and Nightmare Before Christmas. I had never been to anything Disney before 2007, and now I have been 5 times. Crazy...but from the very first second I walked onto the property, I fell in love. I will eat almost anything at least once to see if I like it before I say yuck, so I am very adventurous when it comes to my food selections.

J - Been a Disney fan since birth (both of her parents were at the opening of Disneyland), so it is in her blood. After years of fighting it...she finally succumbed to the insanity. Thank god, because I would hate to go by myself all of the time. I truly think she would be happy eating off of the kid's menu some days, but I have to admit, after the F&W festival last year, where she tasted everything I ordered...she is branching out! She did really well this trip with trying things she wouldn't normally eat at home.

And so now that all of that is out of the way (and I know what you are thinking...it is about time), we move onto why we are here in the first place...THE FOOD!

Here is where we ate...reviews and pics soon to come!

Rose and Crown
Turf Club
Ohana
Le Cellier
Brown Derby
Park Fare 1900
Tutto Italia
Cinderella's Royal Table

Raglan Road

I promise the actual reviews will start tomorrow.:cheer2:

Our first dining adventure takes us to Chef Mickey's. We had only been here once before for dinner, and we thought it was fun, but we didn't bring our camera last time, and our number one rule this trip was to eat at places we had never eaten before since this trip was all about us and no one else for once. The only stipulation to eating here was we had never been here for breakfast and we heard it was good, so we figured it would be a great place to start our vacation.

I decided not to take pictures of the food here because it is a buffet and we have all seen the pictures of the food here. Nothing new, other than my take on it. You will see that since I am so new to this I forgot to take a lot of pictures actually...sorry.:guilty:

In my honest opinion...it was okay. We both found things we liked, but some things were definitely better than others. I tasted most everything off of the hot buffet since I felt it was my duty as a reviewer to at least taste everything. Whenever we go to buffets, I am the brave one and tries everything and lets J know if she will like it or not. She only ate a couple of things off of the buffet.

The cheese omelet was okay. Nothing to write home about. It was eggs and cheese premade and then put in the dish on the buffet. The regular scrambled eggs were okay. It had a decent flavor, but was a bit undercooked (this you will see throughout all of the breakfasts we had this trip...undercooked scrambled eggs), which was a huge bummer because I love eggs. The regular omelet was pretty good. Lots of veggies in it and well cooked all of the way through.

The sausage was good, we both enjoyed it. Not too spicy and cooked well. The bacon was okay. A little thin, but I didn't expect much else from a buffet. The corned beef has was good. Our only gripe with that was it had a cornbread topping on it, so it detracted from the flavor of the hash.

The cheesy potato casserole was just gross. It tasted like something was off in it. One bite, and we were both done with that, and that is saying a lot for J because she will eat just about anything with potatoes and cheese together. The breakfast potatoes were hard and a little on the spicy side. It was lik they had been left out for a while.

The waffles were just that...the standard Mickey waffles. The breakfast lasagna was interesting...not bad, but nothing to write home about. I really didn't like the breakfst pizza. It didn't have a whole of flavor to it, but I understand that it is really for the kids...not the adults, so I can understand the blandness of it. I tried a bit of the french toast and thought it was okay. I am not a huge fan of the french toast thing to begin with. I was taking this one for the team. I opted against the pancakes because I really don't like plain pancakes at all.

We also didn't try any of the pastries because we were really full at this point and didn't want to ruin our lunch at the Rose and Crown.

When it was time for the celebtration, they brought us these cupcakes since we were celebrating our anniversary.

The cupcake was cold, but the frosting was good. I ate the frosting and that was it.

So all in all, this one of those places where you go for the ambiance, and not the food. We had a blast with all of the characters and all the napkin twirling. It really was a great way to start the trip, but not a great start to the food. Will we go back? Probably, but not for breakfast. We definitely like the dinner better.

TOTALS:
Buffet - $22.99 each

Tip $10.00
Total - $58.85

We ended up having cupcakes at every restaurant we went to when we wore our buttons. Make sure you get his birthday button when you check into the hotel. Every CM went out of their way to make sure we had a good celebration while we were there. He will have a blast!

Let me preface this review by saying this was by far the absolute best meal of any we have had in the kingdom, this trip and any other. I think it was the CM we had, but then again...it may have just been that we were excited to be there.

First off, I had the Imperial Beer Flight. I decided to have this to try a few new beers without getting a full pint. It was quite good.

It had Harp (my favorite, it had a sweet undertone and no bitter aftertaste you normally get with ales), Tennet's (very bitter and not very good), Bass Pale Ale (I had had this one before, and it was still good as ever, light and crips...perfect), Bodington's (very interesting, it had a very strong flavor, almost Guinness-like), which brings us to the last one - The Guinness Stout (nasty...I really don't like Guinness, but I found with the cheese plate, it was so very good).

Which brings us to the cheese plate. OMG...this was so very good.

It had a Stilton pastry on it, which was even better when you added a candied walnut with every bite. Otherwise, it was a bit overpowering, but if you don't like blue cheese, you wouldn't like it anyway. The sausages on the plate were good english sausages, and went perfectly with the mustard that was on the plate with everything. I love Cornichons, so I was in heaven with the little pile of them next to the onion marmalade (which I thought was so great, especially with the Irish cheddar cheese). The brie was interesting and was really good on th crisps they had with everything.

It was at this time that our server (Julie) started talking to us and asking us about our trip and where we were from. She ended up spending a few minutes with us and every time she would pass by us for the rest of our meal, she would come and converse with us. She was by far the best server we have ever had. We were never wanting for anything and she made it feel like we were her only table, but we knew she had at least 5 others that we could see. It wasn't a slow day either, so it made every little thing she did even more special.

J had the Sheperd's Pie.

I thought it was good...nice lamb flavor and good mashed potatoes on top. It was a very good portion too. The only thing she didn't like about it was all of the big hunks of cooked carrots in it. But, they were big enough to pick out, so all was well.

I had the Bangers and Mash.

Holy cow, this was good. The potatoes were creamy and good. The sausages tasted like homemade English sausages. The cabbage was perfectly cooked. The shallot jus was absolutely to die for and made everything on my plate all that much better. This was the absolute highlight of my trip food-wise.

For dessert, J opted out because she was so full from the cheese plate and dinner, and I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding...this is one of my favorite desserts of all time, so I had high expectations. It was good, but not perfect. The custard that it was in was nice and sweet. I thought the pudding itself was good, moist and flavorful. I am sorry, but by the time I got this, I was so excited to try it I forgot to take a picture.

This was a great meal and I am so happy I didn't trade this ADR for anything in the world like I did our last trip. I want to go for dinner now. Maybe in September...I hope. We will definitely be going back here, I wouldn't miss it for the world.

TOTALS
Me - $30.98
J - $15.18
App - $12.99
Total - $63.00
Tip - $15.00 - I rewarded very well for great service.
Grand Total - $78.00
