OMG Got warning from VMK STAFF!

I found someone on the Dis. I said my title on the Dis, and VMK sent me a warning! It wasn't my age, school, or anything! Just my title/name on Dis!

Well be glad it was only a warning... many have gotten a ban for the same thing.

Even though the other person is on DIS also it is still telling someone how to find you outside of VMK. You are lucky that you only got a warning for it since I believe others have been banned for similar things. I myself am even afraid to tell people about DIS like friends I would love to tell so they could get the same great info I find here. I would just be careful in the future.

You don't seem to understand, that from VMK's perspective, that's the whole point -- you are NOT supposed to be trying to contact VMK people outside of VMK.

I'm also very surprised you did not get banned.

I'm really surprised that VMK hasn't cracked down on all of the "Dis Member" signatures that I see. I took "Dis" out of my signature many, many months ago, not only to avoid trouble from the Big White Glove, but also because I find it not necessary to identify myself as a Dis member, with it. Those who I want to know who I am on here, already know. lol

I am also considering stopping my "Got Ears?" thread because so many people, not realizing that they can get us both banned, come up to me and say "I saw your post on the Dis, can I get black ears now??" lol

Like I said, I realize they don't know we can both get banned for that, but I really don't want to take any chances getting myself, and possibly CapeCAD, (due to us sharing an internet connection) banned.

Ok, I just closed down the "Got Ears?" thread. (Thanks mods for locking it for me ) I feel good about this decision because, in addition to the reasons I've already stated, I don't think that it was a good example for a Community Leader to be encouraging VMK people to contact me within the game, from outside of the game.

I hope everyone understands my reasononing, and honestly if they don't, it's not my problem Protecting MY and MY family's online fun while on VMK is my main concern in this.

Note: Absolutely no mention of the DIS, the web, the site, anything. Before you say it, run this test in your mind: Can this information help someone contact me in any way outside of VMK? If the answer is yes, don't do it. It's really that simple. And a nice easy test that will keep you out of trouble.

Do not EVER say any names that aren't in VMK. Even if they are allowed in the dictionary. This is a way alot of DIS members are banned. And a note to some- I've talked to staff so many times and never received a warning/ban for saying Ohana Dis and etc. Even in front of their faces, and I also have it in my signature... Many people never realize I'm rpgman in VMK, I always forget to put this in my sig.

What you say in your note is an excellent test. But, you should probably not even say "I am Disney Dreams".

Why? Use your own test: "Can this information help someone contact me in any way outside of VMK?" Well, I just did a Google search on "Disney Dreams" and "VMK". First two results:

About the only way I let ppl know who i am on here is to tell them to check the
'boards'. If they are DIS they know which board to check.
Though it did take me a while to explain the boards to someone in the past. I deliberately took the 'long' way to keep from getting a warning. It took a while but the message got though.

Disney is just trying to prevent people from contacting each other directly from VMK. It is for your own safety.

Right there is the reason for the warning... and I too am surprised it was a ban... just be very careful. I have one adult friend who is forever saying things that just skirt the issue of too much info and mentioning other websites- I just don't think she gets it... and no she isn't DIS- I often just change the subject or leave the room- too tired of warning her myself lol
