OMG... Dana Reeves died

I am so upset. I saw her as my role model when I was diagnosed last month with Lung Cancer, life long non smoker. I thought I was just like her. I am so stunned and about ready to come apart at the seams. My surgery is one week from today. I am beyond words. I know my DD20 and DS17 will hear about this. I promised them I would NOT die from this.

:(

MinnieM3...You are in my thoughts and prayers for a full recovery!! I can only imagine what you must be going through yourself, but I hope you can keep that positive attitude that your role model seemed to have no matter what was going on in her life. I think that would have been something Dana Reeve would have stressed to anyone going through such an ordeal! Again, please know that you will be on the minds of many DISsers, hoping for a full recovery!

As for Dana Reeve...wow! What a shock when I read this today! As a mother, I really feel for their son, Will, who's 13. I'm sure if he has any of his parent's character then he's a pretty strong young man, but it's still gotta be devastating for him. I wonder with whom he will live now...perhaps a grandparent or aunt/uncle. Christopher Reeve had 2 older children (now in the 20s) so even that might work. Both Christopher and Dana Reeve were such awesome people! Even when faced with such horrible situations, they always seemed so positive! This world has been a better place because of them!

MinnieM3 - my thoughts and prayers are with you also.

My best friend is 41 and was diagnosed with lung cancer 3 years ago. The tumor is between her heart and lung and it's inoperable. She is stage 3 and has been for quite awhile now...not all cancer is an automatic death sentence...she worries about her kids 9 and 8, but lives life as normal and refuses to give in to it...nothing stops her.

Please try not to worry so much right now. :grouphug:

Oh, MinnieM3, God bless you and your children. May God hold you all up in His wonderful POWERFUL arms through this trial.

I lost both of my parents 6 months apart and at the ripe old age of 46 I thought I would die. The pain is unbearable. All I can think of now is how I have to stay around for my 13yo son, who have lost so much in his life, and like the other woman, it's my biggest fear leaving him orphaned. His father is schizophrenic.

God bless the Reeve family, Minnie and all of us who have lost loved ones to that horrible disease.

Unbelievably sad! My heart goes out to her family.

I just saw this on EXTRA. They did a short story about her life, what a tragic end for such an amazing woman. :sad2:

My sympathies to the Reeve and Morosini families. Such terrible losses of Christopher and now Dana.

MinnieM3 - my prayers are with you and your family. Be strong :grouphug:

This is so sad! I feel so horrible for their son!

I actually talked to Dana Reeve on the phone once when Christopher Reeve was in the hospital after his accident. She was very nice. She was so young!

Minnie, :grouphug: to you! Each case is individual, stay strong in your belief that you will not die from this!!!!

Such sad, :sad2: sad news.

You wonder why some people have to go through such sadness in their lives. :guilty:

She was a non smoker; lung cancer among that universe is rare but not unheard of. When it does hit non smokers, it usually comes later in life; she was only 44.

Dana Reeves, June 2004

:sad1: :sad1:

A very good friend of my family died in his late 40's of lung cancer. He was a non smoker (never smoked a day in his life) and had 7 children. He was a well known and well liked Doctor. It was so tragic.

Dana's story is shocking, and so sad. It is rare for non smokers to get it, but saddly it happens.

This morning my DH got a phone call from his doc office. He was in last week for broncitosis (sp?) they took a chest x ray and gave antibotics. Today they said "there was an abnormality in is x ray and could he come back in?

DH and I like what??????? That isn't what you want to hear. Then we went to gym and on the T.V.'s there was the story about Dana. Neither of us said anything, but it was a stressful day. It was such a shoock. She was such a lovley women and I repsected her so much.

That afternoon she saw the doc who basically said there was an unclear part on his xray and they wanted to just check again to be sure. She said she did not think tumor, but possibly walking pnemonia.

DH is not a smoker, never has a day in his life. He hates it. He is normally supper healthy. Still knowing it can happen to non smokers is scary too.

MinnieM3. hugs and prayers. :grouphug:

Many thanks for all the hugs and prayers. I didn't mean to hijack the thread, but today was so hard for me after hearing about Dana. I'd been doing fine. Feel so bad for her family and my mind got the better of me.

I came home from school and DH was there with a hug and a warm bed for me to relax. I'm breathing again. I'll keep you updated. :grouphug:

Actually, not that rare, especially in women. 20% of women who are diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked.

I wonder what of that percentage has been exposed to 2nd hand smoke on a regular basis. (spose or parent who smoked, worked in smokely place etc....) DH said Dana had worked as a singer in longes that were smoky.

Not sure about our family friend who died of lung cancer. I know he was not a smoker, nor was his family members. However maybe growing up someone was.

I was so sad to hear this news.
