I thought I would be over this addiction but alas no. We are going to California and DL, April 2013 for just over a month :cool1::cool1:

At this stage nothing else planned or booked.

When the kids end up with no inheritance they will know it all went to Walt and the good ol USA. :rotfl:

Thought i would let all the beautiful Disboarders know first.

Does anyone else have to tell family they are using frequent flyer points so that they don't get the "you just went there last year" abuse??

:yay:Thats awesome Congrats on booking i dont think this is an addiction you can ever get over:scratchin
Lets just say we have not been getting a very good response from some people about buying DVC the you should of used that money for a house has set in :crazy2: Lets just say my response to them is that this enables us to buy a house and still have holidays as well;)

Well done marvel!!! :thumbsup2 It's fantastic that you are able to go again!!
What I say (under my breath) to the nay-sayers that walk among us - "When you pay for my holidays I'll go where you want me to go! Until then, I go where I want to go!!" Works for me...!!!! :rotfl:
You go ahead and make those memories that others are jealous of!:p pixiedust:

MY NAME IS MIA AND I CONFESS TO SAYING OH FREQUENT FLYER POINTS (It is the truth for my next non Disney trip)!

Have a blast! They just don't know what fun they are missing out on. And it also means a few less people in line:rotfl:

We all need to visit WDA (Walt Disney Anonymous)

or

Walt Disney Australia

or....

Cant wait to hear more of the plans

We had a visit from my Mum today and all the kids were sworn to secrecy not to mention a word. I couldn't cope with the lecture today :goodvibes

Beauty of living interstate is that we rang and told them the day before...you know just in case they had to access the wills....no time then for lectures....

Congrats on booking another trip. That is wonderful news.

And I love the FF points idea, I might have to use it.

Congratulations!

Just tell them that you're meeting some friends there....They are specially heading there to meet with you.

That's what I'm doing for next year's trip and everyone just says "how nice to have on-line friends like that".

Of course....no one has asked me the name of my friends yet....Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Pluto.

This idea is genius! :thumbsup2

thanks everyone, it's great to have everyone on DIS that understands the addiction. I am only happy when planning a trip or being on one!!

I have to say the DVC interests me as well, sounds like a good reason to go every single year !!

Congrats Marvel!

We're also looking into DVC to see whether it will be worthwhile for us...

hey becpee thanks for that.

now I need some of the aussie dissers to give us the lowdown on DVC, cause I have read pages and still cant work it out!!

Marvel its kinda like a timeshare but its Disney you buy points and depending on what time of year you travel to how many points you use.

You have a home resort ours is Aulani and you can make your bookings from 11 months out if we want to stay anywhere else we can book 7 months out.
We can also use those points to stay at Selected RCI resorts worldwide which was the kick in for us.

You have yearly dues to pay which for us work out to $1800+(i cant remember exactly) Once the initial cost is paid for thats all we need to pay each year.

We purchased 330 points because for us it gives us 2 weeks to use RCI or depending when we go between 7-11 days Disney the point cost also depends on what resort, room type and time of year. We can also use our points for DCL and Disney Adventures.
Having a family of 6 means we will usually need a 2 bedroom and it means we can now afford to stay at Grand Californian and Animal Kingdom Savannah view which we wouldn't of been able to do before unless we flew to the USA and only did Disney.
The way we looked at was for the cost of a value we could stay Deluxe and we also like that fact that we are securing the ability to be able to holiday in the future including retirement without huge overheads. I am already dreaming of where the kids will want to go for their honeymoons ;) and that is years away.

You dont have to use your points every year you can bank them as well.

We did not meet one person who owned DVC that regretted it they all just said they should of brought sooner and our cruise was full of DVC owners due to the discount they were given for that cruise.

I never thought DH would be interested but he jumped as soon as he realised where else in the world we could use it he thinks its great that was a dream come true for me:)

i should also say for us the break even point is 4 trips but with our Europe trip in 2015 it will just about have paid for itself then.

Its most certainly not for everyone and every one will have different opinions on whether it is worthwhile or not.

Thanks, it does seem likely that it would be of interest to us. We have tended to go almost every year, if not every second year. And we would also need two bedroom making any of the deluxes just too dear.

Can you also rent out points if you don't use them?

I gather the initial cost is in the vicinity of $20,000 - $25,000 up front.

They need to have a DVC for DUMMIES book that I can read!!

It would be a great reason to go more often, makes it easier to justify having already spent the money :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Yes you can rent out the points but we figure that we would be using them at least every 2nd year also and by banking them it gives us 660 points to use every second year.

We also figured the same gives us a reason to have to go and a more affordable way of going i look forward to being able to go and only having to pay for airfares and tickets:)

Initial start up cost depends on how many points you buy 160 is the minimum $135 a point we financed it with Disney which you can only do whilst on a cruise or at WDW if your going to buy i would book a cruise and do it on board we got $4050 discount by buying onboard.
Lots of people will tell you to buy resale but we decided we would rather pay the extra and be able to use them for cruises if we wanted to.

Have you looked at the official DVC website?

THanks again, that's great info. I am now going to the DVC website. It's something I should have done 20 yrs ago when we first went to Disney, but who knew it would become a semi regular trip for us.

I am thinking we should look to renting some points to stay at the Grand Californian Villas.
