We started our search for replacement of our Olympus D450 earlier this year....and when I heard about the C740 & C750...I knew I found it.

We are getting the C750......when they come out in June. I played with a C740 the other day....and it was everything I could do to NOT buy it. LOL It's SWEET!!!!!

We're waiting for the C750 as well. Olympus says late May or early June.

(By the way I wasn't kidding about the hot shoe,
it is a way to connect an external flash with more power

Sounds like the new lens on the 740/750 helps cure the evil purple shadows. Now I have nothing against evil, purple or shadows at any given time but together and when you don't want them bad bad bad.

They are a function of wave lengths, optics and how the electro optical sensor work. You get purple fringe in high contrast pictures with long lenses on digital cameras.

I have a C-700. The 10x zoom is great. The purple fringing has been my only gripe with that camera. It's fixable with software, but I'd prefer it not to be there in the first place! Even though I just bought a new digital, Pentax Optio S, if Olympus managed to get rid of the purple problem with the new lens on the 750, I might be tempted to check them out.

DH and I are about to buy this camera! We've done a TON of research, including reading all the threads here on the DIS about digital cameras, then we went and played with all the digital cameras as several stores and we both kept coming back to the C740. We don't need the hot shoe, and we want the new camera for our cruise in a few weeks, so that's another reason why we've decided on the 740 rather than wait for the 750.

Yeah, my DH wouldn't mind TLK's set up as well, but we don't want to have to put the house on the market to afford it. LOL

I don't know if it's a good deal or not yet.....but if panoramic pictures are important to you, remember that Olympus camera panoramic features will ONLY work if you use an Olympus card.

Most sites giving away free cards with cameras are NOT giving an Olympus card. Not a big deal if you don't care about panoramic.

FYI -- street price for camera is to be $599 when released. Read somewhere.

EDITED: I just looked at that deal closer....it does APPEAR that it may be an Olympus card included free. XD128 (compared to bottom right of additional products available)

I don't think the 750 is out yet so tought to say on the price.

Good point about the panorama. You can get around the panorama thing with 3rd partry softwear but in reality how many panoramas does one shoot?

Dumb question...but what is hot shoe?
I've been looking at the 740 for a bit. But as you can see I don't know very much about digital cameras! I just want something that I can point and shoot with zoom....then see an awesome picture!

Don't ask for much do I??? hehehe

A hot shoe is a connection for another flash.

Think about the wedding photographer, thet have a big honking flash either on orbeside the camers.

Most folks are not going to need it.


A bigger issue is the sound recording ability. The 740 doesn't record sound with movies. Again not a big deal if you don't want to take movies a lot
