Im sorry, Im sure they have their following but I just dont get Synchronised Swimming , table tennis, or Badmitton.

Just dont get it.

Any sports you dont get?

What do you not "get"? That they are considered sports? Or what?

I guess there isn't anything I don't "get" though there are a few I am unfamiliar with. I enjoy watching the obscure sports, at least to us, like water polo, badminton, and sychronized swimming. They impress me mucho!!

Ping pong. They can call it table tennis all they want, it's ping pong. And curling in the winter Olympics, that one makes me scratch my head.

I laughed out loud when I saw Men's Trampoline the other day! It really seemed like it would have been a good Saturday Night Live skit.

"And now, on Men's Trampoline" It was too funny. They are called trampolinists.. is that a real word???

It was hysterically funny (too me anyway)!!

:hyper:

LOL I knew someone would bring up curling ( which I have to admit I like... too many years in the great white North I guess LOL) I just dont get the "sport" part of of certain sports. Im sure that synchro swiming is a very athletic sport but I dont know... it just doesnt have the appeal ( to me) that other sports do.

and LOL @ Ping Pong ITA :)

...don't let WDWhound read you don't "get" something!! He/she hates that....LOLOL

Wait...

Now, I'm a winter Olympics person in general anyway, but I must be WAY behind the times here.

Men's Trampoline??????

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

How is it even possible that 'trampolining' (for lack of a better word) is medal worthy?????

I just think curling is funny, I'm guilty of watching it though. All these atheletes in great shape, and then you have these middle aged guys with beer bellies sweeping the ice. The first time I saw it I almost cried I laughed so hard. I was hooked from then on!

I turned on badminton for laughs, and actually thought it was very entertaining. So I "get" badminton.

But I don't get whatever kind of cycling event it is where you ride verrry slooooow until the end, and then go super fast. What is up with that? I don't get it!

I don't get synchronized diving either. I thought that was really weird.

Anything that has a panel of judges spewing out seemingly random numbers between 9.2 and 9.95 ;)

Well if you ask me Badminton is basically just tennis on a smaller court and a different "ball". I totally "get it" - that little birdie flies up to 200mph. I think its a sport

I could do without synchronized diving.

Remember just because America doesn't hype the sport (like baseball, swimming, gymnastics, and track) doesn't mean other countries don't hold these other events in higher regard than those I just mentioned.

I found this article really enlightening.

Exactly. One man's curling is another man's basketball.

edited because I can't for the life of me work those codes

oh I know that other countries must really enjoy other sports ( obviously by my love of curling lol ) otherwise they wouldnt be in the Olympics. That being said, I still dont get some of them :)

The tripple jump is the one that is just plain silly I think.

I mean, I undertand the javelin, high jump, shot put, and most other track and field sports but Tripple Jump? The athletes look goofy doing it.

I just saw that one of the NBC cable channels was going to show coverage of "flat water canoeing". It looks like a person, kneeling on one knee, is on a wide water-ski size/shaped water craft and paddles as fast as he can. I've never heard of this!

I'm sure all the athletes work very hard to go to the Olympics, but there has to be a line drawn, somewhere!

Though my 14 Yr Old DS is riveted to the screen when it's on, and I know it's athletic....I just don't think "beach volleyball" is particularly "Olympian".

I totally get badminton having played in it for years growing up. In a lot of asian countries, badminton is like baseball here in the USA. Everyone plays it even informally on the streets or in a back yard. It's a totally demanding sport, cause you need to be able to move fast and jump high to get the smashes.

The one I don't get is equestrian. I mean, it's the horses that are doing most of the workout. That and shooting, even skeet shooting.

Oh, another sport that I don't consider sport is GOLF! (OK... flame away, I'm ready!).

 You mean all the time growing up Playing Badminton, I could have tried out for the OLYMPICS?!!:earseek: Also, Trampoline! My DH saw this the other night and said "Thats an Olympic Sport? Since When?" Than he said "When they have Olympic Tiddly-winks, let me know!"::yes::
