Ok, We are moving to our new home in just a few weeks. I am trying to pack and have a problem. My MIL was very indulgent with DS when he was little and we have almost every Disney movie, including all the clasics on tapes. DS is almost 13 and the truth is no one every watches them. :confused3 I lovenly boxed them all up to move but I don't know if they will ever come out of that box. Do I keep them, will they sell on e-bay? Some have such wonderful memories that i am not sure I can let them go. Do you guys think that VHS players will stay around so I can show them to my grandkids?(in about 30 years!) :teeth: I remember having to put as limit on how many times a day DS could watch Toy Story!!

What do I do????

I have the same situation. I am slowly switching over my movies to DVD. Then I bring the VHS to the preschool my DD's went to for their borrowing library or give them away. I will never get rid of the Dis movies... can't bring myself to do it...

I can't get rid of mine either. It's weird to have an attachment to movies but I do. I loaned about 15 of them to the gym daycare but I totally plan on getting them back. They watch Dumbo every morning. Maybe you can find them a good home. If not pack them up and keep them. My kids think my 8-track player is cool.

If you can bear to part with the tapes, another suggestion would be to donate them to a local children's hospital -- that's what I did with some of ours when we started transitioning to DVD's.

(Can't wait for Cinderella to come out in Oct!)

I love the idea of donating them to a children's hospital! How about a women's shelter?

If nothing else, you could always sell them on eBay! Or give them to a friend or relative with young children.

Let us know what you decide to do with them.

I sold some of mine on ebay about a month or so ago. I didnt get much for them. So if you think they hold a sentimental value of more than what you might get on ebay, I would keep them.

Thanks everyone,

At least I am not the only one! I think I will go back through the box and choose some to donate( I support our local battered women's shelter & a partnership in learning program that targets at risk preschool kids) and keep those I just can not bare to let go. Like that Toy Story one! I might pick up a new VCR and put it away with all those tapes so we can show them later!!

Thanks again,

I have kept my movies on VHS also, the kids have VCR players in their rooms and often will go and lie down on their bed and watch a movie. It's great 'cause they are too old for naps now. They are hinting about getting DVD players for their room though. Maybe for christmas. I think I'll keep the VCR tapes for quite awhile. We have quite a few Disney movie nights around our house though and I can't justify buying the DVD while my VHS is still good.

I have TONS of Disney movies on tape, they predate my kids by years. At that time they'd only sell them for 6 months and then said they wouldn't release them again for another 7-10 years. Of course, now we have little kids and a DVD player on each TV & they're readily available. And I've upgraded to DVDs. I still hang on to the tapes because the kids can do them theirselves; I won't let them touch the DVDs yet.

I plan on hanging on to the DVDs because now my kids watch all the old tapes at my mom's house. It'll also help when friends/neighbors come over with littler kids when mine get older. However, it is then that I plan on donating my tapes either to the women's shelter or to the public library. Either way, I'll get a tax write off (a whole $1 per tape) and someone else will get to enjoy them.
