How's Old Town for first night in Orlando? It would be a Saturday, and they have a cruise night. I know there are rides and shopping, but is it worthwhile on a tight budget (all our money will be going to WDW and USO)

Old Town is free if you just want to browse the shops and watch the cruisers.

If you want to wander around and soak up the atmosphere it is OK. I wasn't all that impressed with it but we weren't there on cruise night.

Not a bad way to pass an evening without spending any money.. And if you like rock 'n roll music, it's neat to listen to it while you're wandering around!! ;)

Old Town is a fun place to spend an evening. Cruise nites are great if you are into classic cars. They get a nice turnout. There are some interesting shops to browse through and some decent places to eat - Flippers has really good pizza.

The rides are reasonably priced if you want to do any. We always hit the go-carts. Another favorite (and free) activity is watching folks ride the Sky Coaster, a huge tower with the riders suspended on a long cable that gets pulled up to the top and then released.

I'm not sure if it's still there or not, but the old time photo place is very nice! We have had pictures done there twice. The backgrounds are so nice, and they do a great job.
When I have been there in the past they have been pretty busy, so get your name in when you get to old town and then go shopping.
:D

Forgot to mention before that Old Town has (or at least they "had") their own web site on the internet in 2001.. Don't know if they still do, but try typing Old Town into your search engine and it may come up for you.. It will give you a lay-out of the grounds, listing of all the shops and restaurants, prices for the tickets for rides, etc..

It's really pretty neat and the music is great!! :)

Holy moley! Three buck to ride the Tilt a Whirl??? Hope anyone who plans on riding the rides just goes ahead and buys the all day pass for $15!

Hi,

We've never been to Old Town, but may try it on our next trip. We'd probably skip the rides...but can anyone tell me about the cruise nights? Are they worth a visit? My DH is a "car guy" and I'm leaning toward the Sat. night cruise since it seems to include antique cars as well. Any thoughts/experiences?

Thank you!! :D

I do believe you are right. Friday nite gets more customized cars and hot rods, not necessarily "antique" but "classic" like 1970's and later. But if your DH likes cars, he'll enjoy himself either nite. They get a nice turnout and the cars are parked throughout the complex, so you can browse the shops while he is browsing the cars.

I have been on Saturday nights more than once. I love the old car night and there are some great cars there. You get to walk around and talk to the owners and let me tell you, they are always excited to talk with another car buff.

I have also been to the Friday night one but am not as into the newer customized cars so I don't enjoy that one as much.

If you are staying off site at either the Days Suites or Days Inn right next to Old town, they'll give you free ride coupons. If not, get the coupon book at the guest services center in Old Town. It has a lot of buy one get on ride free coupons. Along with coupons for totally free rides on the ferris wheel.

It is a nice way to spend an evening. I have to second Flippers pizza (in Old Town). Pretty reasonable in price and excellent. We get it several times each trip. If you are really trying to stick to a budget though and your kids will really want to ride the rides and play the games, it may not be the right way to go. There isn't a whole lot else to keep young ones interested. (if you're taking kids that is).

Thanks for the info on the cruise nights---also great info regarding the coupons and Flippers pizza. Sounds like this could be a fun evening! :D
