First off... it's been WAY too long!! My first post in a long time! But we are going back in October... I hope! :thumbsup2

Years ago we bought annual passes, then later that same year we did a free dining deal while we had the APs. For that trip I had to buy a "package" to get free dining. I put the tickets (room cards) from that trip away for a future trip. Knowing (or at least reading) that we could use them on a future trip.

Now the time had come and I have several questions....

I'm trying to pinpoint the date they were purchased. I think it was Sept 2007. I'll confirm as soon as I can.

1) Assuming I'm correct with that date, they can be 'upgraded,' correct?

2) What is the best way to upgrade them? Use them first, then upgrade inside or go right to guest services?

3) ... and a possible complication to that... at the time we were 2 adults 2 kids. By Disney standards we are all adults now. Does that make a difference?

Thanks in advance!! : )

You need to use them first, then go in and upgrade them. You might need to do this in 2 steps. I'd probably stop by Guest Relations with the 2 kids' tickets and explain that they are the same kids, but now are Disney adults. They should exchange the tickets for adult tickets with no cost as long as they can look up the tickets, see the dates and the kids and it's reasonable to expect they are the same kids. Then use those tickets and your adult tickets to enter a park, and upgrade.

My understanding is that WDW will change a child ticket to an adult ticket at no additional charge IF the ticket was first used when the child was under age 10. Since your children's tickets were never used, I think you'll have to pay the adult price when you upgrade them.

That makes sense. Thanks for the quick replies!

I'm assuming my first stop will be guest relations... my biggest concern is that for some reason I cannot use them or upgrade them! That is a big factor in my budgeting to afford this trip.

I upgraded my unused tickets two years ago and did not have any problems changing from child to adult. They had not been previously used.

Had a single day ticket purchased through a free dining package for my son in 2009. He was a child then and is now 11 so on our last trip in 2012, I upgraded the single day ticket (that was on a room key). I did have to pay the difference (just a few dollars) from a child to an adult ticket. It was explained to me that was the case since the ticket was unused. But my thought is that now that 1 day adult ticket can now be used by anyone, not just my son?

Thanks all. For budget purposes here's what I'm going with:

Step one: Go to guest services and upgrade both kids to adults. Based on today's pricing from child to adult... $6.39 per ticket. (x 2)

Step two: Use the 4 tickets to get in to the park and then add six days to each at customer service inside. Based on today's pricing from 1 day to 7 day base ticket... $211.93 per ticket. (x 4)

Total cost: $860.50

Does anyone see any flaw in that logic? Just trying to avoid unexpected charges.

Thanks!

Go to the Theme Parks Strategies and Advice board.
Read the explicit, indexed, and continually updated Everything About Tickets" sticky thread. I'm not sure it has prices, but it should answer every question you could possibly have.

Problem:

They will not do this, the system will not allow them to. The system will read what you paid for them as children's tickets and you pay the difference between the ORIGINAL price and the current adult price.

If I were you, I would try to use the kid's tickets at the gate, worst case scenario, you have to go to guest relations before you go in for their 2 tickets. Best case, they let you all in.

They will not let you use the child ticket at the gate. It will indicate to the CM that it is a child ticket and the CM will see that you are an adult. Just go to Guest Relations from the start.

1). Yes any unused ticket after 2005 is still able to be upgraded with 14 days of first use as long as there are still entitlements on the ticket.

2 & 3) use the adult tickets first. This will result in price bridging the tickets to current gate value. A huge savings from 2007. You will not be able to use the child tickets, and therefore will not get price bridging. You will need to upgrade/change those tickets at guest relations before using and you will get 100% of what you paid for those tickets back in 2007. No gain, but no loss. Yes, it's two steps, but IMO, it's worth the savings.

I have used tickets that are children's tickets but my children are 10 and 12 now..... Would I have to upgrade those since they have been used or could they use them as is?

If the tickets still have entitlements on them you still need to upgrade them to adult tickets at Guest Relations, however in this case there is no charge to change them from child to adult, because the tickets are USED.
