Now that all rooms are non smoking, does anyone know if Disney has done any special cleaning to those rooms? I would hate to end up in a room that still stinks of stale smoke.

I'm sure they have done what they call a "deep cleaning" at a minimum. I'm not sure of the details of that, but I know it includes shampooing the carpets among other things.

Disney has gone to a lot of trouble to make this change, and I'm sure getting the stench out of the rooms is a detail they would not overlook. To overlook cleaning the rooms would be "unmagical."

That said, there are a large number of people to whom rules don't apply, so if you run into a smelly room, just call and demand that it be thoroughly cleaned.

Well ....I was worried about this too. I asked at SSR at check in if the room they were putting me in was a previous smoking room and the CM said she was new and didn't know which rooms were designated smoking before but we didn't smell anything. NOW....when we were at BWV...I sorta wondered if our room had been one. I felt like there was a slight smell ....but only noticed it upon entering the room after being out. It was not enough to make me ??? it or call about it....and I despise smoke. My son who has allergies and asthma had no problems in this room either. I am thinking it might have just been cleaners I was smelling.

At the BWV, all of the smoking rooms were located on the second floor, but not all of the rooms on the second floor were smoking, though.

We were at OKW for the first time on Aug 13. We moved from VWL to OKW mid stay(our waitlist for VWL never came through). Upon entering our room, the smell was very strong. We called the front desk and they moved us to another room. We were told that our original room had never been a smoking room, but apparently rules must not apply to everyone! We were surprised the maids did not take care of it. There was no way they would not have noticed it.

On the upside, we enjoyed OKW. Once we figured out the buses, it made getting around the resort much easier. Our first love is VWL, but we would definitely stay happily at OKW if we could not get VWL!

That's what I'm afraid of. I guess people breaking the rules will be a bigger issue than getting a former smoking room that hasn't been properly cleaned. Glad to hear you were moved with no problem.

Exactly I would hate even more to get a room that someone broke the rules and smoked in. YUCK

Well, I'm a smoker and I have to chime in here, In the past 10 trips to Dvc resorts I have always requested a smoking available room and in the last 10 trips I have been put in a nonsmoking room and told by the front desk to go ahead and smoke as were sorry we can not accomadate you request. So that said why are you blaming the smokers when Disney allows smoking in non smoking rooms?

Well I have never heard of Disney CM's saying to smoke in a non smoking room. I find it hard to believe that in 10 DVC trips you were 'ALLOWED' to smoke in non smoking rooms. I think that is horrible. I am sure that was not the common practice.

I was not the only person on this thread discussing this nor did we refer to ALL smokers as BEING rule breakers nor did the other posters.....NONE OF US SAID THAT EVERY SMOKER BREAKS THE RULE. If I were a smoker and was given a non smoking room because all the smoking rooms were full...I WOULD BE THOUGHTFUL ENOUGH TO NOT SMOKE IN THAT ROOM ANYWAY..and at least do it off the balcony or outside somewhere. MY FIL Is as huge smoker and he is kind and thoughtful enough to smoke outside when he visits. We don't allow smoking in our home. I have two children with asthma and they can't be around SMOKE or SMOKERS SMOKING. IF I got a room that smelled like smoke...I would be back up to the front desk lickety split requesting accomodations elsewhere. PERIOD. This does not need to turn into a bitter SMOKING THREAD VS NON SMOKING THREAD. WDW felt it was necessary to go NON SMOKING FOR A REASON.

Well EDK35, It appears you just have turned this into exactly that type of thread. I never stated that I smoked in nonsmoking rooms just that I was given permission by Disney to do so!!!! BY the Way THANKS FOR SCREAMING AT ME!!!!!!!!!

WOW !!!!!! Did someone hit a sore spot or what??????
I've had the same thing going on for years also. We always had requested smoking rooms and they NEVER seem to have any available. We also are told to just go ahead and smoke in the room. This is even after requesting to talk to a manager over the useless smoking room requests. He also said to just go ahead and smoke in the room.

I find the whole topic a bit funny. Disney stops smoking at WDW due to the "so Called" fact that they just aren't renting the smoking rooms. Yet they almost NEVER had smoking rooms ( odd ).

WHATEVER!!!! You know what. I am done with this thread. I am not going to waste another post on someone that has just joined this group, and posted less than 10 times. I have better use of my DIS board time than to bicker back and forth about smoking and non smoking rooms. DONE!! Have a good Disney Day. :thumbsup2

WOW! your a real piece of work!!!!! Hope I never run into you at Disney!!!!

You know what.....you quoted me when I was just agreeing with two other posters. I didn't start this thread. Why did you pick me??? Two other posters said the exact same thing. One has to question people like yourself that have very few posts on this board and yet you got right into a debate on this. You yourself could have posted completely differently to get your point across stating "hey I am a smoker and I have actually been offered non smoking rooms and told to smoke in them but I didnt". You didn't do that. Apparently the posters up until that point didn't know this was common practice at Disney Resorts either. So yeah I took it personally. I had no idea Disney was offerering non smoking rooms to smokers. You would think if they did that...they would insist on having them smoke outside. Regardless...this thread got way out of hand fast and yes I jumped in too....but I have been here a long time and you are the first person that I have felt I needed to scream at. If you want to call it that.

Actually if the maids are smokers (which many are) they probably would not notice the smell, Guess you get imune to it the longer you smoke. Glad to see you were able to get a clean smelling room.:daisy:
