The first time I went to WDW we ate at a counter service place at the Studios and for the life of me I can't remember what it was called or where it was...I remember I got some sort of Italian dish (spaghetti? lasagne?) and the ceiling was exposed- like there were pipes/beams and I guess catwalks everywhere. I want to say there was some Aladdin cut outs around- like maybe the Aladdin characters were there at breakfast or dinner? Am I completely crazy? I just remember we were considering the Brown Derby for lunch and then I saw the price for just a sandwich and I freaked (I know, I was naive, what can I say)- they wanted $14 for a tuna sandwich with no fries or side salad. And this was 1995-----I went to 50's PTC last October and it was $12 for a HUGE turkey sandwich with fries. Anyway, I digress. So we ended up at this other place that I don't *think* is at the studios any longer.

P.S. This would have been 1/1995

We ate there several years ago, isnt it where the playhouse disney is now? We loved that character meal. There were so many characters there. I think it was callled like the sounstage restraunt? Now they dont even have chracters at hollywood and vine. Something mgm sorely needs - a character breakfast, lunch or dinner.

SOUNDSTAGE! This definitely rings a bell. Was it counter service?

We ate here on our first trip to Disney!! It was definately called the Soundstage. If memory serves me, it was a buffet. I remember Jasmine, Quasimodo, Esmerelda, and maybe The Genie being there. I can't remember if there were any others, but I remember the characters seemed to be everywhere!!

I agree, they need more character meals here. We loved the Hollywood and Vine character meal and am very disappointed it is gone.:(

Maybe they will add a new one in the future.:)

Does anyone remember when MGM opened, way back in 1989? We ate lunch in MGM at a resturaunt with Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy. Was that the Soundstage?

I know before it became a buffet the area was counter service. It was years ago & I can remember they had a bean soup that was fantastic on a chilly February day. When I got back to WDW a few years later it had changed to the character meal.

We ate there in 1998 on our first trip to WDW as a family--it was so new then as a buffet that it wasn't on our map. We just happened upon it when we came out of Little Mermaid-got great pics with our DD. It was gone when we were there in 2000.

I am sure we ate there in 1991. The name was Soundstage. Was there a playground for the kids nearby? I remember the overhead pipes and the catwalks very well. It was counter service, I am sure. The change to a character meal rings a bell for me, too.

I remember taking our food into a nice courtyard to eat. All of a sudden, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ran out! I thought DNephew 7 was going to die on the spot! Of course, DD9 was too cool to care!:teeth:

Thanks for the memories!!

I don't remember if a playground was nearby- we were honeymooners so we didn't notice the stuff for kids as much as I would now.

I do vaguely remember the Ninja Turtles though-----I think they were still there when we went cause I remember seeing a poster or something perhaps nearby the restaurant.

And, off topic, but I remember this AWFUL Barbie stage show playing at Epcot on that visit as well- anyone remember that as well?

Oh, yes-I remember Barbie-actually, I'd forgotten (blocked it out!) until you reminded me. I remember seeing her cruise around in her big pink Barbie-mobile (can you tell I wasn't a Barbie fan and only had boys?)

I don't remember the name, but we ate there about 11 years ago, and it was for an Aladdin character breakfast buffet. Jafar and Genie came to our table after an interminably long (and unusual for Disney) wait. Then we went upstairs to meet Aladdin and Jasmine in a private room for a photo. My DH still swears that because we were stuck behind a little partition, the CM skipped our area completely and that's why we had to wait so long. It's his "worst Disney experience" and probably his only bad one, as far as that goes!
