There was a post about about a year and a half ago about someone and their family picking up coins off the ground and within a year they found over $70. Could someone pretty please bump the post for me? I tried searching for it and couldn't find it. At the time of the post I was pregnant so there was no way I was picking up coins. :lmao: Recently when I was wrapping our coins I remembered the post because it was really inspirational and for the past few months I've been picking them up. Thx!

I remember the post, too. I always pick up coins, even pennies!!! Money is money and if people are fool enough to not pick it up, I'll be more than happy to.

I had a penny jar that I recently cashed in --- I had $68 in there!

My regular coin jar (only quarters, dimes, nickles) fills up pretty quickly because I NEVER give change at the store, even if an item comes to, say $5.11. I'll give them $6 and that extra change goes right in my coin jars. I emptied it out recently and had enough to pay my Target bill which was awesome. I'm starting all over again and when it gets filled, I'll use it for another bill. (I used to use it for B'way shows but times are tough right now and we won't be going to B'way for a while!)

I found 8 cents today on the ground. It's a habit my grandmother got me into when I was a little kid. She would also give me the pennies out of her purse every so often. My first savings account was opened with nearly $50 in pennies and silver coins made up the rest. I hand rolled every one of them.

The last time we cleaned out our change jar, including bills, it was enough to pay for one month's rent.

Is this the topic?

I posted in that old thread. I still pick up money. Today, I found about 30 cents randomly here and there (quarter and five pennies or so). The one month I counted, I had found $6 in change. I'm still putting it into my kids savings accounts and they each have $215 dollars in there. All but $50 each was found money since they were 2 and 3, which is when we opened the accounts. They are now 7 and 8. So, I guess $330/5 years is around $60 a year.

There was also a blog I once read where these people kept track of their found money in NYC. That was cool!

That thread inspired me to start paying more attention. Over $10 found in about a year. Not a lot, but more than I had before.

One of my dd's is a natural at finding money wherever she goes. She finds, on avg, I would say 50'ish cents on every 'errand day' where we are in and out of 5 stores or so. Probably about $4.00 a month. We never taught her to scan the floor or to check things but she'll check banks at the thrift store. She'll find quarters that are stuck in the bank. It's crazy how much money that kid finds :lmao:

Well my numbers were a little off, but yes - that's the post! It's amazing that you found it!

I stopped mid-jog yesterday to pick up a nickel. lol I don't go shopping that often (it seems like the majority of the change found is at stores), but I think I want to keep track of how much change I pick up.
I even got DH to pick up pennies. :rotfl:

Another place I've found money is at the laundromat. I ALWAYS check the machine when I'm taking things out. One time, I found $60 (3-20 $ bills). Another time, I found a $20 bill. I guess people don't check their pockets! It sure wasn't my money (until I found it!)

Also, at the grocery store... sometimes at the end of the counter (where you bag your stuff), I've found money. People are busy packing their bags and paying and sometimes they drop money. I've found a $20 and a few singles.

I found $1 one time in an ash tray at the airport :rotfl: This was back when you could smoke in the terminals (early 80s). Another time, I found a $100 bill crumbled up on the floor :)

Well I put my DH's loose coins from the wash into change jar, does that count?! :rotfl2:
Wow, that's a lot of money that you found. I never find bills. DH is the lucky one!

This happened to me in a similar situation, only I was at a grocery store and someone had forgotten to take their $40 cash back. I didn't even consider keeping it because personally, that money wasn't mine and I wouldn't have felt okay taking it. Who knows if the person ever got their money back, but I returned it to the front desk. What if that person had come back to get it moments later, and it was gone? :/

Yea, that's not found money. That's like saying someone forgot to lock the car, so I found some stuff in it.

I found $20 at Target and turned it in. I know the person at customer service could just keep it but I hope if someone came to ask about it, it would be returned. My girls pick up change all the time though.

Are you talking about at the self checkout? I've found money there and turned it in as well.

The money I found was on the floor --- that's definitely "found money". If there is money left in the slot at the self checkout, that's a different story.

My bf and I walked out of a small store once. I pointed out a dollar bill on the ground and he snatched it up before me. But when I closed the door, there was a $20 bill just behind it. He was too busy gloating over his dollar that I picked it up. I tried to return it to the store and they told me to keep it.

I've found some change at the laundromat, but it probably came out of my own pocket. I usually check the machines before hand to see if there's any stray objects or clothing stuck in there.

I see, I thought you meant you "found" it in the cash back slot.

Not too sure how you interpreted this to mean I found the money in the cash back slot:

I only use the self checkout, and here the cash back slot is by the bagging part. So hence why I thought that. I explained why I said what I said before though, not sure why you would question it again, but oh well.
For what its worth I would have still turned it in. If I find anything in a store I do, now in the parking lot its a different story.

I wish I started that so long ago. My DH cleans carpets and collects money galore. Only from the empty places. Once he brought about 5 dollars in pennies from a home where they just tossed the pennies everywhere.

one time when cashing out at coin star (for starbucks card to use at the airport during our wdw trip) I reached into the rejected coin bin at the bottom and there was around 3 dollars in silver quarters and dimes dear hubby was happy as he is a coin collector.
we always pick up the change we see I think I will start a jar just for that now
