Old PH tickets - Can you still use?

A friend of mine has 3 old PH tickets with 2 days on each from a prior trip. She and her DD were planning to do a few days at WDW and inquired about using the tickets. When I mentioned the new tickets and the finger scans, she called and was told that she would have to turn them in for new MYW tickets - which means they would be able to use the tickets contructively to get 3 days for 2 people. Does anyone know if you really have to do turn in and convert your old tickets? Will they still take the old tickets through the turnstiles without a finger scan? I'm curious because we still have about 6 days on 4 tickets from prior to us buying our AP's last Feb.

You do not have to turn them in for Magic Your Way passes. So long as the old tickets fit in the turnstiles you may use them as-is. Older tickets may be exchanged for modern magnetic stripe tickets at no charge.

Finger scans will be attached to the tickets when they are next used.

It is not recommended to use them during a 5 to 10 day vacation when new passes are also bought and used but rather save the old pass and buy a new pass for the entire vacation. But depending on your schedule (no Disney Quest) you may get away with one person using up all the old tickets and everyone else buying new tickets which is a good use. When figuring out your ticket budget, simply ask yourself the question "How much more will it cost not to use the old tickets now?".

By the way it is permissible to trade up an (one) old ticket towards a (one) new MYW ticket although the exchange rate is usually bad. Roughly the trade value is the proportionate amount of the purchase price for the days remaining and you must purchase non-expiration and hopping on the new ticket (plus pack too for park hopper plus passes already used at a water park).

They can still use the old tickets unless they are the really old PH tickets. Then they would change them to new hoppers. They will have to do the finger scan with the old ticket. Once they have the initial finger scans only that person will be able to use that ticket.

You don't HAVE TO turn them in. I have 6 brand new PH I bought in December and I can use them. Nobody but ticketing counters in WDW can can tell you about tickets so your friend was definately misinformed. She can use those two tickets for 2 days each or turn them in for cash value towards a 3 day MYW ticket.

(which means they would be able to use the tickets contructively to get 3 days for 2 people.) How did she figure on getting 3 days out of two day hoppers? :confused3 :confused3

Nevermind, I reread your post. I understand.

I thought you didn't need finger scans for the old PH's??
