Old magic bands?

We have decided to take a last minute trip. We have magic bands from 2018. I understand the batteries may no longer work. Would these still work for tapping into parks/rooms/tap to pay? How does photo pass on rides work with the rides that don’t have a place to tap (SDMT,etc)? We will have phones that we can put the app on, and I use an Apple Watch. Trying to decide if I need to grab one new band to make sure ride photos work out.

Magicbands are supposed to always work for tapping, they just won't work for long-range tech like on-ride photos if the battery is dead. I assume by putting the app on your phone that you could get the ride photos, but perhaps someone who has actually used it since roll out can chime in to let you know for sure.

As long as you have Bluetooth turned on for the MDE app and have MM connected to your watch, ride photos are supposed to link to your account. Unfortunately, there aren’t many actual reports yet because it just rolled out a few days ago. So if you want to be absolutely certain, you could buy one plain colored band and carry it on rides that rely on linking photos from a distance. As of Jan. 2020, my oldest one still worked for ride photos. That was one I got when they were experimental and only being used by guests at certain resorts. Not saying that is a guarantee those from 2018 will work, just saying one older than that did.

Maybe I should dig out my older ones! I’ve got them somewhere!
