We are staying for the first time at OKW in April/May. Can anyone tell me about the 2 BR villas? Can you tell me which buildings are best to stay in. We want to be close to everything...yet have a nice view, a little quiet, etc. and preferably be at a corner unit. Thank you for your help.

My usual area to request here is the Turtle Pond pool area. There is a snack bar, children's playground and a very good size pool, too. :)

Perhaps this map will help you. As you can see, most of the buildings up through 29 are fairly close to HH. I, however, think being close to HH is overated. I prefer the South Point area for quiet, closeness to DTD, and the fact that it is the second bus stop coming in.

You asked for a first a corner unit-I never seen that before on this site regarding OKW. You can request whatever you want but it really doesn't matter where you are at OKW, the units are all great. You seem to want to be close to the HH but that is one of the most requested. I have been to OKW close to 20 times since I have been a member and never requested being close to anything. If I were you I would make a request either non -smoking or not, and close to HH. Keep n mind you are never far from anything at OKW. There are four pools and and 5 bus stops, all the buses will take you to the HH. At any rate the corner unit is a new one. I have stayed in a one bedroom and two bedrooms most of the time and I must say all the units you think you are on a corner unit even though you may not be. They are not constructed in the back where the living room and master bedroom in a perfect square shape like the front of the buildings. The corner unit gives you know advantage as far as I can think of, you will just not know you are in it. The view is a tough one also because just about all are nice views. I would not worry too much about a view. Remember put your strongest request first when you make your reservation. It will be on your confirmation.

I agree that the corner unit request is not necessary. It's not like a hotel where there is a straight hall with doors right off the hallway. Each entrance is angled to give a "private entrance" feel (although you would have the door to your adjoining studio right there, too). In most buildings the studio is on the end of the building/corner.

When looking at the map, keep in mind that the road is in the "front" of the unit -- the view is in the back. For example, unit 27 would have a terrific view of the golf course fairway.

I have some room reports from OKW, and the only building where a person in a 2 BR said they were close to HH and had a gorgeous view, was in #26. There are probably others, but that's all I have so far.

I think the best views that are near enough to HH, are from buildings 16,17, 18, 21, 22 and 62. Those on Penninsular Road aren't bad either (23, 24, 25, 26).

We are currently in a studio lockoff in bldg 37. The 1 bedroom side of this has a good view of the golf course leading up to the green. This bldg is tucked away in a cul-de-sac away from traffic but not too far from the pool. Not too far from bus stop either.

WebmasterDoc gave us some great advice about dealing with noise. Turn on the fan on heat/cool system to to ON position and leave it on. It actually helps regulate the temps. We have had neighbors the whole time and this has really helped. Maintenance crews mow a lot but they have too, this is a huge place.

After staying here for the first time, we will be back. Granted we miss our "home" at WLV but OKW is beautiful. Hoping to add-on again real soon!

Regard corner units at OKW. I always request and get either a 1 BR, 2 BR or once a Studio. I always request and get a Handicap Villa. In every case the Villa's assigned have been, 1st floor and either at the far right or far left of the building. I would conclude from this experience that all the "end" villas are Handicap Villas. Have never stayed in the elevator buildings.

Jimmytammy -- Glad to hear things have gotten better. Your "noise" post sounded like you were miserable and I felt bad for you.

Your comment about your building points out how we all see things differently. Like you, I think that's a good building, especially if a view is a top priority. Other people would be whining about how they have to walk down the driveway to the bus stop and that it's a walk to the HH area. It's a trade-off of what each individual enjoys.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay at OKW!

We have stayed in pretty much every area of the complex. I have to say, that IMHO, the Southpoint area is the best for us. It's a bit far from the HH and main pool, but very close to a lovely quiet pool. It's close to the path that you walk to DD. The views from that area are generally woods or the canal. It seems to be a quieter area. If you want a golf course view, then take a look at the map and see which buildings are on the golf course.

When we were there in the summer, we stayed in building 27 or 29, right on the main drag and across from the main pool/HH area, and it was a little noisy during the day due to the pool party.

All the one and 2 bedroom units are 'corner' units so to speak. The way that they are arranged your living room is a corner, with windows on 2 sides. Your balcony/porch is not facing any other unit directly next door so it is fairly private.
If you are in a 2 bedroom lockoff the second bedroom will also have a balcony/porch that is away from the one on the living room.
We like Old Turtle Pond the best. Close to a pool, snack bar, bus stop and great golf course views. And still a comfortable walk to HH. Second bus stop coming in too.
I have always found OKW to be quiet and laid back. Yes someitmes you get noisy neighbors but in general it ia the quietest of the resorts.

The more requests you have, the less chance of having them filled. If being close to HH is important, make that your main request. We have stayed at OKW many times and have never been disappointed with our room.

Our first time at OKW was in Feb and we moved there from BCV. We were on the 3rd floor, 2 bedroom in building 13 and we loved it - view of the gold course and a pond with a fountain... We were thrilled. Didn't have any mowers wake us up as others have reported. It was recently rehabbed and we loved it.

Good luck,
Annette
