old key west .. what can you tell me..

The path to DS is a nice walk. There are signs on it recommending that you do not walk it after dark. It does go past some wooded araes that seem a bit remote so being there at night might be a bit dicey....I know it's Disney but there are nuts everywhere.

Though I've been a member 23 years and live close to the mouse I had never taken that pathway until a month or so ago. And I was VERY surprised at how isolated one feels wandering through the woods. It was daytime but I can tell you that I would NOT walk that path at night unless with a group just because it was so dark and so much out of view of anything or anyone. And i'm no "fraidycat".

When getting on the pathway from the parking lot, the signage was not at all clear which path to take (there is a fork in the path each heading off into the woods and you can't see which way might be best because the woods are so thick). I took the left path and it took me out closer to the road and then back up and around. So take the right path! Um, the right turn. Is the right path….. LOL!!! :teeth:

Older resort, IMO tends to have higher mold issues, not much insulation in the walls so you hear your neighbors if they are loud, if your unit is close to the road you hear the buses, not close to parks or DS.

Larger rooms, nice landscaping, homey feel, relaxing, bus to parks, boat to DS.

:earsboy: Bill
Actually, you can take a boat (as well as a bus) to Disney Springs, so I consider it to be "close". The only resort closer to Disney Springs would be Saratoga Springs Resort...

Have the studios ever been refurbished? If so, how recently?

Are a lot of people finding the rooms to be worn out, in disrepair, in need of an overhaul? Or are the rooms mostly in good condition?

It looks like several people have mentioned having mold issues there, but others say they did not. I'd want a place without any mold. Are there certain buildings that are mold-free?

OKW received a large refurb in 2010. Since then they've had the usual upkeep maintenance and receive the same switch from bedspreads to triple sheet on the beds.

We've stayed there a handful of times and not had mold issues beyond once the shower had a couple spots that they needed to get at with the bleach - but I've had that at other resorts too.

I've only stayed here twice - but I like it - it's obviously not my #1 choice but I prefer it to some others.

It is probably the most laid back and relaxing resort on property IMHO.

Love the quiet and the size of the rooms.

Have only used 1 and 2 bedrooms here though.

Hi, I'm a solo traveler and considering including maybe three nights at an Old Key West studio, if I can rent some points for this fall. It would be my first time staying at OKW, and in the pictures I like the room décor, but not sure how much I'd like staying there.

Also, I've never been to the actual Florida Keys. For those who have been to the real Key West, how well does the OKW theming represent it?
I have stayed there solo. I love it! I usually request a building near the hospitality house; or a water view. I have had no mold "issues" ever (as PP stated there is some in the shower tile, but not enough to be an issue; but had a villa near the canal in the back of the resort that smelled musty, so I changed my location. The studios are most definitely refurbished... (within the last couple of years). The rooms I have had have been in good condition. I have also been to the actual Keys every year. The vibe is very much Key West...!

We really like OKW. It's not our first pick, but think it's great.
