Old Key West- Turtle Pond??

I went to OKW in May of 2009. I asked to be in that area known as turtle pond. The front desk said I couldnt be placed there because they were going through renovations. Has anyone visited there lately and stayed in this area. Is it still being renovated?

All renovations at OKW are completed.

That was an odd statement to make anyway, as even when renovations were going on it wasn't like an entire section of the resort was shut down at any one time. Check the OKW map on this site and call back with specific building numbers and see how that goes. Of course just calling back and speaking to someone else may also produce a very different response to your initial request!

I don't think it was that odd. (and the op stated that happened in 2009 so they don't need to ask for specific buildings now) If they were in fact working in the turtle pond area then there would be work trucks and work noise and work related problems for the area around the specific buildings they were working on. There might have been availability for the area but the Hotel staff would most likely have been told to use those rooms on a as NEEDED only. I know I wouldn't have enjoyed seeing work trucks and hearing work noises on my vacation.

To the OP we stayed in the turtle pond area in the begining of February and everything was perfect (and complete). Enjoy!!

It still seems odd to me as what constitues the Turtle pond area in my mind is almost 1/3 of the OKW resort building wise. So it is hard to imagine they ever closed off that large an area at once. And sorry I didn't phrase the rest in past tense! Anyway, as others have said all buildings are available now so good luck and enjoy. Turtle Pond is where I usually request too.

Turtle Pond water view is my favorite area at OKW. Had great views in 31, 37 & 43. Was OK in 40, little close to the main road and traffic.

dont know amcnj. I asked to be put over there and they said they were renovating it. The family likes that area for some reason and they wouldnt let us go in that area. I dont know if it was closed off or not cause i didnt even bother going in that area when i went.
