Heading to the magic in a couple of short weeks and will be staying at Old Key West. Sometime ago I made a note from the DISboards that rooms in blocks 23 to 26 have a central location and great views. I just want to make sure this is the case or if there are better positioned rooms I should add to my room request.

Ideally - with 3 small children 5,7 & 9 we want to be close to a pool and not too far from a bus stop. Any recommendations greatly received!

Also do the bedrooms allow for a rollaway bed as I want to request that our youngest has a bed in our room.

Many thanks

Our first stay there in 2 weeks.

After alot of debate i've rung and requested a turtle pond Rd location upper floor. Not guaranteed but we'll see.

My reasoning was turtle pond is all fully renovated rooms, near a pool (largest of the quiet pool) and a snack place and more likely to get than a Hospitality House location. HH seems most popular and DVC can book HH as a category.

Renovated 1 beds have a bed settee and a single bed sleeper chair - so enough beds for you all. Not sure re a rollaway.

From the DVC boards on here it seems 45-50 and 30-44 are renovated. 23-26 are classed as HH.

I've been there a few times and I'm not going to make a request - each time we've been in a completely different part of the resort and they've all been fine.
The renovated rooms sound nice, but there again the wooden floors have been reported as causing noise from guests above, so I won't be disappointed if I get an older, quieter room.

We've just come back and stayed in a studio right next to Turtle Pond, second floor - I had requested a water view room but was more than happy with the location that we got (building 41). To us, there was greater value in being near a pool than being near HH, other than transferring to DTD via the boat, and a couple of visits to the main pool, we spent more time at the Turtle Pond pool and snack bar.

Turtle Pond is the third bus stop for buses returning to OKW from the parks which was very welcome on the way home on an evening, and is the last but one stop prior to buses calling at HH before leaving for the parks. Being located right next to the pool meant that we were away from the main road where I could imagine that the noise of the buses could be a distraction.

There seemed to be a lot of renovations of the buildings around South Point, including the bus stop there, so that may be something to bear in mind.

I think wherever you stay you will be pleased, OKW is a fantastic resort, very peaceful and relaxing! Have a great trip!!!

when we arrivd we were allocated a room, we went to se the room and I immedialtey rang reception and asked to change. It was a room with disabled facilities on a ground floor, as no one in our family was disabled I found this a but odd.( why would disney take a disabled facilty room away for a block of 2 weeks) We returned to reception and got a room with a bath, which i find essential on a holiday with young childrens - as I wanted to keep the bathtime routine some nights, if future i would make this clear at check in. the new room was fab- no complaints.

most rooms have a fab view of lush greenery and water our balcony was a real treat at the end of a long day. Enjoy:goodvibes

pudsey - was your room renovated?

I don't think so, it wasn't the hardwood floors, but we did have a flat screen tv in the room. I'm not sure what exactly the renovation stretches to, but I thought that the flat screens were only in renovated rooms. The rest of the room was in great nick, with no real signs of wear and tear, the only thing we noted was that there wasn't a fan on the balcony which meant that we were unable to sit out on an evening due to the humidity.

My better half is of the opinion that it wasn't renovated recently. :confused3

Sorry, not much use, I know! :rolleyes1

Renovated are blue walls with blue bedspreads with shells on. Older are pastel green/peach with a more tropical multi coloured bedspread.

Well i've asked for renovated will see what we get!

If you go on the dvc boards on here - have a search and a few threads come up with the renovated rooms. Think it's in the DVC mousellaneous section.

We had a ground floor studio near Turtle Pond in August and it was a great location. The pool was lovely, very close to a bus stop and quiet. We had a great time, it's a lovely chilled resort.

do all buildings/ areas have studios? if not which dont
what direction/order does the bus serve the bus stops?

The DVC resorts don't in general have rollaway beds. You can ask but don't be surprised if they say no. They are not set up like the 'regular' resorts as it is timeshare.

An alternative would be an inflatable ready bed. They are only about £30 from Argos and the like though home bargains had them for £10 before Christmas. They come in loads of different character designs and roll up into a smallish bag.

We satyed in building 25 in 2008 and it was a great location but to be honest the whole resort is beautiful.Went around the resort on the bikes and went to turtle pond area and it was nice . We requested near a bus stop and was pleased with our room on the 1st floor.

We did get a studio in turtle pond area - block 42 upper floor. Great location - a few steps to the pool and snack place for drink refills. Room was newly renovated. Would ask for a room there if we stay at okw again.
