Hi

I did an online check in for old key west today - we have never stayed there before and was wondering about which location to request !

We don't have a HH location booking so was wondering if there was a specific area to request

Here's my wish list

1) walkable distance to get coffee / drinks refills (I do like to send DH to get coffee in the morning lol)
2) good location for transport (we won't have a car)
3) near a Pool

I'm not sure if it's possible to find somewhere that would tick all the boxes - but any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Hi

We stayed in the turtle pond area last year in building 43. It was a 2 minute walk to the Turtle Shack which has coffee, snacks and a refillable mug station. It was at the half way point on the bus route for pick up and drop off and it is near one of the quieter pools. It was also quiet as it does not back onto one of the main roads like Bonnet Creek Parkway or Buena Vista drive. If it also helps we requested a second floor so nobody was above us to reduce the noise - it worked; we heard no sounds from our neighbours

Have a fantastic time. OKW is a wonderful resort.

Maybe she still wants him out of the room in the morning ;)

Ha ha - hadn't thought of it like that, but it sounds reasonable lol
Filter coffee pots are a bit of a mystery to me - not that common in the uk (we're more a kettle and a teabag)
So I get my coffee from Starbucks (or equivalent) and had a bean to cup espresso machine installed when I got a new kitchen :)

Also I tend to leave the kitchen unused while on holiday !!!

Old Key West can be fun - and is a pretty relaxing atmosphere. But, it is a bit sprawling. When I've stayed, I've often found myself taking buses around just to avoid walking.

With that, given your list, you'd most likely want to be near the main Hospitality House buildings 11-14, 16 or 62-64. The issue there is that they have the buses and other traffic - so you don't feel quite as separated. Another good option would be Penninsular Road buildings 23-26 which aren't far from the main building.

Next in line would be Turtle Pond near its quiet pool and the Turtle Shack - buildings 36-44. This is the small pool, but you also have the refill station as others have mentioned. And, the bus stop isn't too far away.

We really liked it there, the pool area is terrific, there's even a shuffleboard court. The bus location is good, because it's in the middle you don't feel like the bus ride is too tedious.

Thank you very much for all the suggestions in the end I requested penninsular road and an upper floor. I know it's only a request and too be honest I don't think I'll mind wherever we are but I do like to research and plan !!!

Six weeks today I'll be on the plane 7 hours into a 10 hour flight - on my way to Orlando airport !!!

Just so you know...... there are very few buildings at OKW that have elevators, and those are near the Hospitality House. We've been on the third floor a couple of times, and after a day in the parks, climbing those stairs seemed like climbing straight up a mountain. Plus getting your luggage up to the third floor when you arrive can be a challenge as well.

Other than that, it is a great resort that seems much quieter and more peaceful than some of the others, and the rooms are huge.

Have a GREAT vacation!!

Hhhmmm - how fit am I feeling ? might rethink the higher floor lol
But liked the idea of having no one above us, as we always seem to get the 'weak bladdered furniture movers' :rotfl2:

We liked the rooms on Miller road, building 16, 17, and 18. However, last time I noticed that several buses filled up before they reached Miller's road, so they stopped at the HH just to let people off, then went straight to the parks. Glad we weren't staying in Miller's Road that time!
And several times I've seen people talk about going to get their morning coffee, and I've wondered "Why if you have a coffee pot in your room?" I'd really be interested in knowing-could the OP please come back and tell me why that is? My parents used to do it-their reasoning was it was just part of the morning ritual they enjoyed-the walk in the morning. What I enjoy is staggering out as far as the kitchen, pouring a cup of coffee and sitting on the balcony in my PJs. Maybe it's just different rituals.

Building 27 or 28. Quick walk to first bus stop, and pleasant walk to main building with water on either side. We ask for 2nd floor and over look the golf course
