I have a question about resorts and Refirbishments. I understand that all the DVC resorts will be remodeled on a regular basis, and OKW has gone thru a couple of these. What I want to know is, when they replace fixtures, couches, beds, etc. Do they plan on updating the decore inside? I have noticed that OKW has a 80's & 90's "Golden Girls" kind of decore that has been out of style for a while. I am just wondering if they take into account that styles change, and they can keep a beach style of decore without staying in this era. I love OKW and would like to add on points so this is of interest to me.

any comments?

I don't know how they could drastically change the interiors without re-doing the theme of the resort. Now, fabrics do change, the "new" couches at OKW are slightly differnt than the originals, and the carpeting is slightly different. The appliances are all modernized...but in general they seem to try to stay close to the original color schemes. BTW, OKW is not "Golden Girls" theme, it is Key West tropical, hence the lighter pastel Florida colors.

I know it was not meant to be theamed to the Golden Girls, but watch that show and you will see what I am talking about, their living room furniture looks like it came out of an OKW Grand Villa. I have been to the real Key West and I am glad that OKW Resort is nothing like the real thing. The real Key West is a dump.

Well GOOD! One less person we have to worry about taking those GVs away from us! ;)

Not trying to bash OKW. They have the best sized villas in town. It's a great resort. It was just a general question on remodeling policy. In fact I will be there in March, choose that resort because of the great two bedroom.
Did not mean to offend :)

Many of us do not see it the way you do. It's meant to be pastels and laid back. I doubt you'll see much change over the years in color or style though possibly with the exact patterns of the furniture.

The real Key West is what it is -- a real town without the benefit of Disney capital/authority to manage its look and feel. Lots of heritage, good food, unique culture and history to enjoy. The sunset celebration is an unique experience of eclectic Key West charm.

Disney's OKW theme would likely not change unless they did a complete renovation at the end of the contract.

So OKW looks like the Golden Girls, and Key West is a dump. Hmmm. Maybe OKW just isn't for you.

OKW looks like Florida. Very similar to MY Florida home, which I don't consider dated, either.

Yeah...and also without any desire to manage its look and feel! Changes in latitude, changes in attitude...and all that stuff.

Yep, and don't forget good drink, Matey!

It also helps to have a little pirate in ya'! All of the Keys were basically settled by pirates with no ships.

It's also the only place I know where one of the most popular tourist teeshirts says, "Hogs Breath is Better than No Breath At All! (You have to be there to understand  )

Hint. If ye don't applaud the sunset at Mallory Square, we'll feed ye to the fishes! Arrrgghhh! pirate:

Same for the Florida Keys... :teeth:

Disney completely remodeled the rooms at the Contemporary to make it feel, well, more contemporary. I like OKW very much but I feel that the interior is a bit dated; keep the pastels but maybe update the furniture, bedspreads. Just an opinion, in no way a bash. :)
