We will be staying at Old Key West for the first time this June. We have one ONE BEDROOM and one TWO BEDROOM suite. There are seven adults total. I've read the usual stuff about the rooms, but can anyone shed any light on specifics? Where is the BEST section to stay? What is closest to the check-in, buses and elevators? Good and bad of specific areas? Anything and everything you can share will be greatly helpful. Also, if anyone knows where I can find a map of the property online or can link me to one. That'd be great too. Or maybe a site that has some great photos of the property.
Thanx again.

I can't really tell you what is the "best area". However, OKW is a very spread out resort. The are numerous units and they are 3 story units. Only two or three of the buildings have elevators so the potential exists that you would have to walk up 2 flights of stairs. If there is a medical condition that prevents this be sure to note that on your reservation. Also, be sure that the reservations are noted as being together.

If you go to the DVC board, I am pretty sure Webmaster Doc has a map that he would send you!

we were in buiding 25 and i cannot say enough good things about that building, we were right across the street from the pool and reservations and the restaurants, it was just a short walk, and you were right at the bus stop too. so that would be my suggestion 25 was a smoking building, but 24 and 26 is not, which ever one it is in the same circle. hope this helps.

I'm staying there around the end of July. I suggest getting the Unofficial Guide to Disney World. It gives you several buildings to suggest that are good for either walking distance or quiet. But from what I see, it's farely large, so anywhere you stay (unless you are next to a loud-all-the-time area, with large crowds) I think you'll be alright.

You can request a building , but are not guaranteed to get it. Sonme of the closest buildings are 23-26 or maybe 11-14 .I prefer buildings 41-43(old turtle pond) it is close to a pool and hot tub. You can also hop on any bus and it will take you to the front or hospitality house.
Good luck

Did you post this question on the DVC discussion board?

If not, do so. Thay have ALL that info there. Including Specific room numbers!

There are also some really nice pictures at www.ourlaughingplace.com and at www.yourmagicaljourneys.com.
The one bedroom suites are 1005 square feet, and I think the 2-BR are around 1400 square feet. We toured a 2-BR once, and we were in awe of how spacious it was. A lot of people like the Turtle Pond area, but I don't think anyone has really disliked any particular area. Occassionally units that are close to the main road (21?22?) get road noise, I've heard, but nothing much.

We stayed in room 6223, which was a 2 bedroom, in early January and I thought it was just great. The building had an elevator very close to the room and the Hospitality House was maybe a 30 second walk. Occasionly when it was very quiet in the mornings, we could hear the buses but other than that it was pretty quiet. And better yet, we could see the fireworks from Illuminations every night from our balcony! I had requested a non-smoking room in building 62, 63 or 64 and didn't having any trouble having those requests met. Our groceries were waiting in the room when we arrived a little after 5:00pm. We loved it.

We are long time DVC members, and have never had a bad room, they just have some differences. Some are close to the Hospitality House, some are close to the quiet pools, all have a bus stop in a reasonable walking distance. They are laid out very different than any other resort. There are only a couple buildings with elevators - just to reiterate a prior post - if you have a medical condition that requires one make sure they know! We also travel in groups so we've experienced trying to get close together rooms. Only once have we ever been far away - and they moved us (at our request) when a closer room was available.
