We will be spending a weekend at OKW in June. As we have never stayed there I was hoping someone could give me some insights. How is the pool?
Is there a food court? What about the table service restaurant, is it worth making a reservation? Is it easy to get around? What are the best room locations? I'm planning on sitting at the pool while my DH and DD go to the parks so I'm looking for relaxation this trip, will OKW do it for me?

Any answers, or suggestions, will be appreciated.

There is a DVC board, you can find TONS of information on OKW there.

It's a beautiful resort, very relaxing. No food court, but a sit-down (Olivias), which has never seemed busy when I've stopped by. There is a map at the DIS of Olivias: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/okwmap.htm

I have photos here: http://www.mousesteps.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=25&Itemid=48

(they are not of the rooms, though they are lovely and HUGE - at least the 1 and 2 bedrooms are, the studios are more average hotel room size rooms).

there are 4 pools - main one at HH, 3 quiet pools - South Point Road, Old Turtle Pond Road, Miller road. South Pointe and Miller road are smaller than Old Turtle pond road.however with kids you will be only at the main pool - it has a castle for a slide

no food court. there is a snack bar close to the main pool - Good's food to go.
there is another snack bar close to Turtle pond - Turtle Shack Snack Bar - but very limited hours for this one.

Olivia use to be great. but with Disney trying to make all the menu close to the same - it just doesn't have the same touch.

easy to get around - well I think so - but others will disagree. It is very, very spread out. It is a community with condos not hotel rooms.

I don't like being to close to HH - the traffic (although not nearly as bad as most of the WDW resorts) is the worst at OKW.

that say - I would suggest building 23-26. they are far enough away, but still close enough to walk to the main pool. building 11-14 are across the street from the main pool. but the traffic here can be a problem. Now this is only if your kids would have to do the pool with a slide.

here are some pictures

if they would be happy at any pool - then building 18 or 55 - much more peacefully.

You've got great advice. I just wanted to add that we really love OKW.

We consider it to be WDW's hidden gem!

Have fun! :thumbsup2

I don't remember specifics (building numbers and such), but the pool was nice and so was the restaurant/counter service, though nothing too spectacular meal-wise. The rooms are very large and spacious with a fantastic balcony. You can rent boats in the marina area and that can be a lot of fun because you can take a nice relaxing ride to Downtown Disney. You can also rent bikes which you can ride to DTD. The resort itself is huge though. Other than that we really enjoyed it there. The whole place has a very relaxed, easy-going feel to it. Good luck!

Don't have much info, but I really liked OKW, EXCEPT for the lack of food court. I know, I know, that's what the kitchen is for, but being on vacation, I don't feel like cooking all the time. The other not so good thing was having to carry luggage up stairs, which is why DM requested 1st floor this time!
It was a very quiet resort. We were practically across the road from a bus stop and maybe had 2 families at the most waiting with us at any given time. The 2 bedroom was HUGE and the balcony was beautiful. It was cool looking out from it and seeing what the workers were doing in the AM to get the resort ready. Hot tub at one of the quiet pools was awesome...pool was pretty quiet. What is awesome about deluxe resorts is not having to bring towels to the pool!!!!! So that was very nice for me.
Have a great time!

oh yea forgot - the only building with elevators are 62, 63, 64 - one of these doesn't have a parking lot.

but the steps aren't that hard to walk up and down.

Wow! Thanks for the info everyone. I'm sure we will have a great time. My DD will want to spend time at the main pool -- for the slide -- but I will probably spend some of my time at the quiet pool nearest our room.

I'm confused about the dining though. I know Olivia's is table service but is there no counter service area? If not, is there a place that sells milk and rolls and such for breakfast? We bring our own cereal but I always like a blueberry muffin when I'm at WDW.

You can always get milk, bread, and other staples at the Store in the Hospitality House. :thumbsup2
