We have not been to Old Key West yet and your help will be greatly appreciated. Does anyone have any suggestions on what specifics a family with kids should request on their Disney reservation? Is there a better location than another. The family will be using the bus system.

Well, I don't consider myself an expert - but we have stayed @ OKW several times. :thumbsup2

Hospitality House is where most of the action will be - main pool, game room, 2 eating places, workout room, volleyball, tennis, marina, etc. So, if thats what you are looking for, then request near HH. Other areas (South Pointe, Miller Road, Turtle Pond) have quiet pools with hot tub, grills & play areas. Turtle Pond also has tennis and a seasonal snack bar.

Hope you enjoy wherever you end up staying! :Pinkbounc

HI! OKW was our first home resort, and we all still love it! We really like staying down on Turtle Pond...the pool is comfortable and the location beautiful. We like being able to get away from the hubbub and chaos of the Hospitality House. The walk from Turtle Pond up there is peaceful and lovely.

You'll enjoy! :wizard:

I wouldn't worry so much about location at OKW, since there will be easy access to the Hospitality area even if you get the farthest away location. ALL buses stop there on their way out of the resort, so it's a short bus ride no matter where you stay.

If you are going to be staying where you need the second entrance to the bathroom, then you will want to request building 30 or higher.

Many folks with kids really prefer the Turtle Pond area. Most OKW views will be of golf course, water and woods. I would just state your smoking preference and chance it from there.

This seems to be one resort where it makes a difference the floor you're on. Remember, no elevators and noise from above. Some people prefer top floor so they don't hear footsteps from above. Some people like first floor so they don't have to walk upstairs (especially if they'd be lugging strollers). We always make a request for top floor at OKW.

OKW will always be my favorite resort, after all , I watched it get built. It has many good qualities: 1) very relaxing atomsphere; 2) parking is close and there are many spaces; 3) Turtle Pond is a great area, with a big pool and play area for the kids; 4) Olivia's has good food - excellent Key Lime Pie; 5) The bus stops are close enough so your walks are short; and I am sure I could on and on. Some of the draw backs are since it is the oldest DVC resort, it does not have elevators except in the two newer buildings. So if you are on the third floor and have a lot of luggeage or food to carry, be prepared. The main pool is nice, especially now that it has a slide; but the pool and play area for small children could use some remodeling.

However its most under rated feature by far is its room sizes. If you have a big family and are used to staying at the other DVC resorts on Disney property, you will love the addtional space and room sizes at OKW. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :cheer2:

I just made a reservation for my brother's family, and he told me to pick a location. They also have kids, and will be using the bus stop. So I requested top floor, near the Peninsular Road bus stop.

Top floor means a couple of flights of stairs, which he said he was OK with. But it also means that you've got a better shot at a good view, there's nobody running on your ceiling, and you won't get a handicapped accessible room.

Peninsular Road is nice becuase it's the first bus stop on the way back from the parks. So when everybody's exhausted at the end of the day you get dropped off first. It's also a real short walk across the bridge to the main pool, the Hospitality House and Olivia's. And the Hospitality House bus stop is the last stop on the way to the parks. So if you play your cards right you never have to ride a bus around the resort.

But OKW is my favorite, and anywhere they put me is fine with me!

I would request near H.O. with children. The main pool and store and snacks are right there with short walks for those tired little legs.

We are looking forward to our first trip to OKW in Jan. 2007. I hope to be able to see a 2 bdrm while we are there. We stopped over to see OKW this past Jan. and we really liked it!

I've been a member at OKW for 14 years and have had quite a few stays there. The resort is great and we just love it there, very quiet, beautiful and relaxing. We like buildings 15 and 16 or 13 and 14. I hope that is right? They are near the HH and have golf course views. If those aren't available we actualy like the Turtle pond area with its own pool and snack bar. We like second floor also. No elevators at OKW but we don't like ground floor. Have a great trip.
