I am looking for help from any DVC members in the Cincinnati area. My family and I have been DVC members since '98, however we just moved from Boston to Loveland OH. In Boston I was able to obtain round trip non-stop service to Orlando easly and inexpensively.

I have just begun looking for flights for a trip in October and can not believe the cost and inconvenience.

Can anyone point me to a nearby airport with reasonable airfare to Orlando from the Cincinnati area?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

I am sort of new to the area as well, as you might guess by looking at my name. Early this year I moved to Maysville, KY, which is about 70 minutes or so from you on the river. But I have been flying back and forth to Ohio for years.

Cincinnati was recently recognized as having the HIGHEST air fares in the country. Delta controls the market. Sometimes AA or UAL will come in a shake things up a bit, but only for a few days, and always with lousy connections.

Your best bets are Dayton, Columbus and Indianapolis. Dayton has AirTran, and often has very good fares everywhere. Judging by your location, you are almost as close to Dayton as CVG. By the way, you do need to search AirTran on their website, not Travelocity.

Columbus and Indy are your other good choices, in that order. Both have Southwest, which needs to be search from their website.

Airfares in general are going up, and there are few of the giveaway fares. So shop hard. You might want to also check fares into Tampa, and perhaps other Florida cities as well.

Don't forget Louisville, KY. We are only 1.5 hours south of you. Also Lexington, KY is about an hour or so away. Both of our airports have direct flights into Orlando. Never hurts to check.

I agree that Dayton may be your best closest choice. We moved to Columbus recently from Cleveland (not as drastic as your move), but the airfare in Ohio seems to get more expensive the further south you are in the state (or into KY as far as Cinci's airport goes). Not sure how far north you are comfortable driving, but Akron-Canton airport has reasonable fares compared to the bigger airports in the state, although for the drive I still believe Dayton will be your best bet.

Best of luck

Dayton's airfare on Delta have gotten out of sight! Columbus does have SW, so sometimes we fly out of there.

Bobbi :)

I would definately look into Columbus. I'm flying to Tampa for $96 round trip with a SWA Ding Fare.

Thank you all for the advice. I will begin looking into each airport and compare prices versus the location. We have BWV booked for October 14th, so I think most of the inexpensive flights on SWA are taken.
Thank you again for your help

I live about 30 min. east of Columbus. We are staying at BWV Sept 16-21. I think I paid $120 including tax for a non-stop round trip ticket - Southwest Ding fare. We're flying out of CMH. I haven't seen any Ding fares for Oct. yet (most are thru Sept. 30th), so you may be able to find something once those start.

Forget Indy....since ATA went out the service from here is horrible. You can fly Airtran pretty cheap, but if you want a direct you pay through the nose. (plus the times are mid - late afternoon) I guess I'll learn to love stopping in Atlanta. At least they have a Starbucks in terminal! :thumbsup2

We're in Wooster....and we fly Airtran out of Akron-Canton. There are often direct flights for very reasonable prices...a bit of a hike from Cincinatti, I guess.

We are in Cincinnati (West Chester-about 10 minutes from Loveland). We fly either AirTran or Southwest.

AirTran has non-stop flights for about $109 each way from Dayton. It takes us 45 minutes to get to the Dayton airport.

Southwest is usually about the same price, but they only fly from Columbus (1 hour 40 minutes) and Indianapolis (2 hours).

Do NOT try to fly out of Cincinnati, it is completely outrageous.

Oh, and welcome to Ohio! :welcome:

One more thing...

AirTran flies out of Indianapolis as well. I just checked rates on airtran.com for October 14th and they are $69 one way for non-stop flights. I imagine the same would apply for your return flight. That seems like a great rate to me!

Welcome to the area!! I'm also in the northern Cincy suburbs! Everyone is right on about flying from Dayton. CVG is one of the most expensive airports in the country, although it no longer holds the TOP spot :)

We always fly airtran or united out of Dayton. There are decent fares there (although not usulaly as cheap as Columbus or Indy), but it's only about 30 minutes as opposed to 90. However, Indy can sometimes be about half the price of Dayton.... so then you have to decide if it's worth the drive :) The nice thing about Indy is that it's very tiny, so you can get from the drop-off loop to your gate in, oh ...... 11 minutes if need be :rolleyes1 I wouldn't count on it, but it can be done :) Dayton isn't all that large though either, so very easy to navigate ... but very boring if you have to get there too early.

Someone else mentioned AirTran having more expensive flights or worse times for nonstop.....? That has not been my personal experience. For a given day from a given airport, all of the departures listed are the same price. I look at the website every day :) And, in my experience, there are always nonstops in the morning and evening, which is perfect IMO for a departure or arrival to and from WDW.

Good luck, and enjoy the area! Loveland is darling. I lived there until Jr. High, and we still have lots of family there :goodvibes
