Old Disney Park photos

These are from April 2009. You can also see an arial satellite photo if you go to google and click maps then type Disney Fort Wilderness Campground in the search area. You may have to scroll through the campground, but you will see RC. You can zoom in.

Nice photos. It's a shame that this is all overgrown like that. I see the rock slide that was in one of my pictures. I bet Disney will develop that into some sort of attraction.

Thanks for posting all of these retro pics!! I love looking a them.

Its so sad to know that River County is still there but in a deplorable state. Something like that should not exist in a place like WDW!:sad2:

Didn't they abandon RC because the water was unsafe to swim in?

I think that was the major factor. Since they banned swimming in the Lake/Lagoon, and the water from RC was from Bay Lake. But its such an eye sore. An abandoned water park! And when you walk to Pioneer Hall, you see the fence surrounding RC.

Swimming in the lake was banned way before RC closed. I'm pretty sure it was a cost cutting move on Disney's part.

Actually some of the theories are that it was closed becuase of the high bacteria contamination in the lake and several deaths had occurred from other FL lakes near that time. Also there was a law that said that the yahd to have a different water saource other than the lake, which would've been big money and also since part of the park was the lake, it wouldn't work so well. I think it was closed for like 3 or 4 years before they offically announced that it would not ever be reopened. Up until then it was kind left in the air like it may open again at a alter date.

I bet it sits like that forever, or gets totally cleared for something else, but no for many years.

Actually WDW has several places like this. The unfinished side of Pop, the old Discovery Island, and until recently the treehouse villas.

Onetreehill just posted some pictures in her TR of RC from March. She got really close up ones. Super creepy looking.
If anyone wants to see them I can look for the page number and the link.

those are some great pics! I love the dreamfinder and figment. Wish I had a picture of me in that situation.

Yikes, the RC photos are spooky. Like the photos of the abandoned Splendid China park - gives me the heebie jeebies.
