Old Disney Park photos

How ironic is it that my first post on this thread is the first post on page 77. The same year as my first trip to WDW, as my name states, back when I was 5.

There are some awesome pics on this thread. One thing that really stands out to me is the lack of little ones in the 70's pics. That and the lack of strollers.
I remember 20,000 and the skyway. Those were great classic rides.
Those saucers in that one photo look way dangerous wow!
I remember Discovery Island. When we visited in the late 80's they were training monkeys there to help with wheelchair bound children.

I remember my grandmother emphatically stating to me when I was young, "Not until your 6." I think it was a different mentality back then. Now there are travel systems from birth through early elementary, educational programs for the under 6 set, and more and more parents take their very young children on vacation with greater frequency. I think I was the first generation in my family to have a car seat! Back then if you were really young someone held you or you laid in the seat. My DH's mom had pumpkin seats for the floorboard for him, but that was about it in the way of car safety! :)

I remember fighting with my sister over who had to lay over the hot hump in the back. Anyone else remember doing that?
I look at my kids sleeping in their seats now and think how uncomfortable they must be. The freedom to lay down in the seat. Of course I too remember the 70's and sleeping in the area under the back window. :scared1:
Cars back then were made of steel and not fiberglass though.

Oh, wow. I had forgotten all about the 'hot hump' in the back of the car. No one today who's under 35ish will likely know what you're talking about.

Oh the memories of the "hot hump". :rotfl: And that was when cars had vinyl seats and air conditioning wasn't standard so you had to ride with all the windows in the car down just to get any air. I can't believe that we didn't wear seat belts either - back then if you wore a seat belt you were just crazy. If there weren't car inspection requirements most people would have cut the darn things out. (Of course I remember when gas was 23 cents a gallon. ) :rotfl2:

I love these old pics! It takes me back to when I was a kid, going there with my parents! :goodvibes

This is me and my brother in front of the Magic Kingdom on our first trip down
in the mid 70's.Unfortunately all of our pictures from this time period have become
really faded so the colors of the flowers don't come out well.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this thread! If I ever get to the end of it I'll add some pictures too! (I'm on page 50....so many wonderful pictures to look at!) :thumbsup2

We went to WDW for the second part of out honeymoon....I have some pics from River Country& Discovery Island I'd like to share.

I am so glad I took the camera! Next time we went back RC was no more! That's my DH sliding down the water slide.

See him way out in the middle swinging on something?

I really liked this place. I only went the one time that I know of. Animal Kingdom opened the week we were there so I'm guessing DI closed down shortly after. I'm glad we got to go! This is me enjoying the hammock swings.

Amazingly enough my DH had never been to WDW when I met him! (What evil parents he has!!!!) :lmao:

I just had to take him and guess what he saw when he first walked down Main Street!

Looking back we're thrilled to have experienced it! (I never wanna see THAT again but I'm glad we went and caught it!) Since 1997 he has been addicted to WDW! And I have been addicted to him. :lovestruc  :lovestruc

This was my very first visit to WDW, December 1982. It was LOVE at first sight! I'm the blonde haired girl on Mickey's left...who knows who those other kids are!???

The baby is my little sister, she was terrified of the characters! That's my cousin holding her. It was their first visit!

The scans looked terrible compared to the pics. I think I left the scanner on scan document from the brochures and it lowered the picture quality. You can still see 'em though. I LOVE this thread! GREAT idea! :thumbsup2
