no, as far as I know it has never been anything other than the entrance to animation courtyard. Since you don't know where the hat is, the area with the sign is to the right of the Great Movie Ride. HtP

Nope. It has always been the entrance to the Animation Studios Courtyard.

I actually have a photo (which needs to be scanned) of the Disney-MGM Studios Entrance back in 1990 (I was mildly disappointed that the Studios was closing early that day for the World Premiere of "Dick Tracy"). It has since remained virtually unchanged.

I'll see if I can scan some of my old photos later this week. Could be fun...

Great pics! That one of the MGM sign is actually still there, though. It's at the entrance to Animaton Courtyard.

I was there in November 1997 and they had the Zero to Hero(Hercules) parade.

The first thing I noticed in the Hercules pics is NO HAT! I had almost forgotten how wonderful that view towards the Great Movie Ride was. It really messes up the forced perspective to have the big hat in the way.

i was there in the july of 97 and the hercules parade was on then. and we had not seen the movie yet, so we did not even enjoy the parade, 'cause we had no clue!!!!
