We have a couple of 1 day child tickets that we got with packages and have not used. When we do use them my son will be 10+ years old. How will it work with him using the child ticket as a Disney adult? Will they let him on on these tickets or will I have to pay the difference when I do use them?

Nancy

Your 10+YO may not use the unused age 3-9 tickets. These tickets may be readily given (or sold) to others for 3-9YOs to use, for example you might give them to a younger niece or nephew.

Also the unused tickets may be traded in towards different tickets, here, age 10+ tickets. The trade in value is roughly what Disney received for the tickets, or for for tickets that come with resort package the value should be the ticket booth selling price as of the time of booking.

If they had been days on a partially used No Expiration Option ticket you would not need to pay the difference in ticket prices but you would need to "upgrade" the tickets. If they are unused tickets, you will need to pay the difference between the Kids rate and the adult rate.

If tix are unused, you will owe the price difference between a child and adult ticket. In additon, you would only get credit for what you paid for the ticket originally, not what that ticket is worth today, during the upgrade transaction.

Thanks for the responses! I was kinda thinking I would need to upgrade them but I just wanted to double check!

I did this about in 2012, before I had an AP. My mom gave me my ticket from when I was a child. They didn't charge me to upgrade my ticket. It was a no expiration park hopper from 1998! I must have gotten some pixie dust!

I have the same issue, from what i understand if its a non expiring ticket and some portion has been used, there isnt a charge to upgrade to the adult.

Yes, that's true. It's not pixie dust -- it's Disney policy.

Non-expiring tickets that have been partially used have different rules than never-used tickets.

Can anyone clarify on the non-expiry tickets that have been partially used? I have 1 day left on my youngest kid's child ticket and need to upgrade it this trip. When I called in to link the tickets in MDE, the cast member told me I had to pay the difference between child and adult tickets. I've always read that I did not. We've used 9 days of this ticket before and only have 1 day left. I don't mind paying the difference on one day, but I do mind paying to upgrade a 10 day ticket.

The "phone CM" was wrong. Period.
(They know NOTHING about park operations, but they seem to relish in making up their own "rules.")

You can just go to any ticket booth or Guest Relations with the child and get a free upgrade.

If the child does not LOOK much older than 9 or 10 years, there's no need to do anything at all.
Just go ahead and let the child use the ticket (ticket itself, or on a MagicBand) as-is.

Did you manage to get the ticket added to your MDE?
If not, just call again and maybe get a more competent CM.

You do not have to pay to change a child's partially used no-expire ticket to an adult ticket. The new adult ticket will have the same assets that were left on the child's ticket. You could not add days to this ticket now -- because the ability to add days had a window of 14 days from original first use. Phone CMs know the basics, not the minutae of various Disney rules. They were giving you wrong info. Posting your question here will get you good answers. If answer here is wrong, ppl will chime in immediately.

Go to Post #9 of Cheshire Figment's "Everything About WDW Tickets" (link below) for an explanation of Disney's WDW rules for childrens' tickets, used and unused. http://www.disboards.com/threads/everything-about-wdw-tickets.1452684/
