We were at Disney last week when we received a call stating a family member had to be rushed to the hospital. We did a hasty checkout and got the first flight home. When everything calmed down, I realized that I'd left several things behind in the room. Nothing overly valuable, but stuff I'd really love to have back (if possible).

I called Lost & Found twice and left messages each time. I haven't received a call back yet.

Any advice? Do you think they haven't called back because they didn't recover anything from the room?

Thanks.

Oh boy, I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. When it comes to WDW lost & found in general, it's kind of hit or miss. Sometimes people will report that items left behind mysteriously appear back at home via Fed Ex and others will tell you about the black hole of lost items that are seemingly gone forever. We've been fortunate in that we've only lost things that are not too expensive, and also easily replaced, and usually at a park (rather than left behind in a room.) So I have to say, I have checked daily with L & F while we're still there, but once home, I figure it's time to move on.

But I think it's really disgraceful that items left behind in rooms aren't returned to their owners. I mean, items lost in public areas are often impossible to trace. But it should be pretty darn easy for CM's to see who just checked out of a room and contact them to see if they want their stuff back, you know? I've got to wonder how much stuff never even makes it to lost and found. It seems like there's a "finders/keepers" mentality in our society lately. I think it's really sad. I wish you the best of luck in getting your stuff back, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope. (Think the worst and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised down the line.)

I'll tell you my experience with OKW lost and found. When we checked out of our OKW villa, somehow my bag that I carry to the parks fell behind the sleeper chair. I didn't know that I had even left it, because I had transferred most of my stuff out of the bag into a small backpack to use on the next leg of our trip at Universal.

I got the nicest call on my cell phone from the lost and found manager at OKW later that day to let me know that my bag was found, and they were mailing it to me at my home address. I thanked them, and the bag came to my house a few days later. Only one problem, all of the cash that had been in the bag was no longer there - everything else was still there. It was several hundred dollars. I didn't pursue a complaint with Disney because I couldn't prove who stole the money - my bag went thru several different hands. I took the view that whoever took the money probably needed it more than I did.

I wouldn't expect the money to be returned, but I would have reported it to give them heads up that somewhere there is a thief.
