Seriously considering renting DVC for a studio @ OKW Dec 1-8th...I don't think there will be FD that week b/c of Pop Warner going on. The difference in price to rent through someone with DVC vs booking through Disney is crazy.

I'd like good and bad feed back about the resort and the bus service to the parks...I thought we would stay at Port Orleans but think we may go with OKW.

I've stayed at both Port Orleans (riverside) and Old Key West. Both are nice but I just loved OKW. A studio is bigger than a room at Port Orleans. Both resorts have multiple bus stops and ferries to DTD. I had no problems with transportation from either resort.
The kitchenette area in a DVC studio is always a nice bonus. I believe OKW has the largest rooms of the DVC hotels. I like having that space to make coffee and a quick breakfast in the room.
Of course if you are renting DVC points you won't get mousekeeping.
POR has a food court, OKW does not.

We were at OKW in September and I will be back there in 20 days and hope to stay there in September.

We loved everything about the resort. We always rent a car and drive to the parks, but while at OKW we decided to use the buses. We never waited more than five minutes for a bus...the buses were terrific. Loved both pools, the gift shop was very nice and Olivia's Cafe was very good for lunch (we're doing breakfast when we are there later this month).

I have stayed at both, we went to OKW for our honeymoon, and I liked how the theme felt more "adult," and the seclusion of the buildings was nice. Another bonus is having the patio or balcony to sit outside and drink coffee from your room.

I agree about the lack of CS options, but with DTD being so close this wasn't too bad.

I do hope you like Jimmy Buffett though. You will be hearing alot of it at OKW :rotfl:

With many many trips to WDW, we opted for a stay at OKW, had a great offer and we were a group of 3 families and got a super rate there in a 32 bedroom villa...

Let me start off by saying the grounds are beautiful, the room was spectacular and very well appointed.....awesome.....

But, we ;re close to park people and OKW isn't that handy.....it's huge and the walk (too long for us) to the main pool and food court and what not (HH) was a bus trip...not to our liking and another was being on the 3rd floor and no elevator ( with an infant) total pain with a stroller and supplies.....the quiet pool near our villa was a hole in the ground, no atmosphere or charm whatsoever....

It's very peaceful at OKW, surrounded by golf courses, hardly any Disney reminders anywhere....if peace and solitude is what you're after, OKW will be a perfect fit.....like I said, we like being close to a park and if we could have had our choice, WLV would have suited us much better but were full up....we don't drive or rent a car at Disney and coming and going form OKW was just a pain to us with a young one.....it's location location for us and OKW didn't work at all.....good luck and have a good trip, one resort is not everyones dream...

we love okw
and have never had any issues with the busses
infact the busses are even great for getting around in the resort itself if you are not up by the hospitality house
hospitality house is the last stop and there is a stop right by the hospitailty house that is the first stop

I think OKW is great. As others have said, it gives you the feeling you have really left the parks and can relax. For me the best part of it is the beautiful grounds and the boat to DTD. Since we spend most evenings in DTD, it was nice that we could have the boat rather than a bus run us back and forth. There are ups and downs to every resort - but Ive stayed at POR when the teenage crowds are there - and never will again.

Love the room sizes at OKW!

Be aware there are no elevators, so if you are staying on the 2nd or 3rd floors, you'll be taking the stairs. It was only an issue for us on one of our first visits when our daughter was almost 2; our stroller was large.

There is no indoor CS food option as well. (If that matters to you).

We stayed there in July and had a wonderful view of the golf course.
