Hi first time posting here for me. We've just rented points for a late June stay at OKW. Are considering buying into DVC, but probably need to wait until our sons are out of college
Just a quick question regarding the walkway from OKW to DTD. I read that it's not lighted at night. How dark is it really? Do you have any illumination from lights anywhere? Our two teenage sons and their two cousins will probably be wanting to come back from DTD after we will. Can we allow them to walk back or should we make them take the boat? They are all over 16 yrs old and probably will all be coming/going at the same time. Also one more question if anyone knows. If we all go into PI before 9pm, but the boys (19, 17, 16 and 16) want to stay longer, does anyone pay attention to their age if they are already there? Also if they are at DQ and it's past 9pm, can they get back through PI to catch the boat back to OKW at DTD??
Thanks for the help!!

Welcome to the DIS!! :)

Depending on the moon/clouds, it can be very dark. A portion of the walkway is lighted, but about 1/2 is not. The boat usually runs until 11:00pm, but an easier plan from DQ would be to take the bus back to OKW from the PI bus stop. It's a lot closer that going all the way back to the boat. In inclement weather, the boat doesn't run and walking might not be a lot of fun.

I would not recommend the walkway after dark- the pathway is uneven in spots and there is no real illumination from any buildings from the Treehouse bridge to building 55. The area is protected by trees along the golf course and it closely follows the canal on the other side.

During the day, it's a great way to get from OKW to SSR/DD.

As for PI, since none are 21, they may not be allowed to enter any of the venues that serve alcohol without an adult. The wristbands/handstamps will identify them as underage and they may be denied access to the clubs if you're not there. They would be fine at DQ.

Enjoy!

I totally agree with Doc. I would not try the walkway after dark. There is even a possibility of falling into the canal. The bus would be easiest from DQ.

I walked the portion of the path from OKW to SSR at daybreak about a month ago, just before the sun came up. I would concur with Doc and Diane--this is a path that you simply do not want to be walking when it is not light out. I was very careful but even in the somewhat light conditions immediately before sunrise, the path was difficult to traverse. In addition there are some offshoots of the path that would not be marked in the dark and it would be easy to get lost. The bus seems like the best advice.

DD to OKW. Walked it at night alone last trip. I know not smart but I'm stubborn. On the second half which is not lit...I could hardly see in front of me. It was an adventure.

PI is open as a walk through for all ages as far as I know. I don't think they would have a problem being there or walking through just entering the clubs.

Falling into the canal?? My sons and nephews would think this was hysterical! (esp. if it was ME that fell in!!) That would be the hit of their trip. Teenage boys have a strange sense of adventure and humor. :)

I bought our group some of those mini-flashlight keychains. Some of the new ones are BRIGHT :sunny:

You can loop it through a belt loop or stuff it in a pocket during the day then use it for walking at night.

There is a sign posted stating the pathway is closed after dark, so even if they had flashlights, they're not suppose to use it.

Not to rain on anyones parade but ....

As safe as Disney is from the many of the loons in the world, please don't give anyone the oppurtunity to do something bad to you or those you love.

Please use the bus in lieu of this trail at night or if you must take the adventure, travel in large numbers on this path and bring flashlights.

The trail is nicer during the day anyway, you see more of Mother Nature.

Stay Safe !!!!

There's a pathway from OKW to DTD? I had no idea!!! How cool - we'll have to check it out next time we go (during the day, of course).

See, this is why I love reading these boards!
