We are trying to plan our next trip during the first two weeks of December and trying to determine which place would be best to stay at.

The pro's with OKW is that it would only be 160 points as compared to 200 points at WLV. Another OKW pro is the 1 bedrooms are almost 300 sq feet larger than they are at WLV. So considering these two pros, what other things does OKW offer at the Christmas Holiday (events) as compared to WLV. I think I know what my choice would be (OKW - been there, love it), but I am trying to talk myself out of trying something different.

Has anyone stayed at either of the two around the Xmas Holiday?

Thanks

VWL Thanksgiving 2001.
OKW Christmas 2002.

If you can swing the points. Hands down VWL at Christmas. The decorations, atmosphere and woodsy (sp) feeling is topped by only to seeing those presents under the tree on Christmas Day.

Do it, you'll have fabulous magical memories.

Boat to DTD is a plus with everything closing early that time of year. Also DTD does some special Xmas things. :smooth:

My vote is for VWL hands down at Christmas. This resort is stunning at Christmas, it is the stuff Norman Rockwell drawings were modeled after. Also you will be a boat ride away to MK with Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, and the Christmas parade and shows and also a monorail ride w/transfer at TTC from Epcot with the Candlelight Processional and all the special holdiay festivities at WS. DTD decorates very nicely for the holidays and they have some special activities for the holidays but nothing like what the parks do for the holidays.

It may come down to availability. VWL is much smaller than OKW and it is very possible that there is already a waitlist for 2 bedroom units for that time period. The 7 month window for early December has been open for several days now.

The good news is that wherever you stay, you'll have a wonderful time!

We have been to OKW for x-mas 1996 and New year's 2003 and loved it! People decorate their porches and many have their own trees(we did). Had no problem with location of OKW on any of our trips, but VWL will have easier access to MK via boat and it is beautifully decorated for the holidays(cocoa by that huge fireplace!). I am going back for New Year's this trip and have reservations at OKW, but just booked Swan for a great price and during that week, it will be more convenient to get to and from Epcot/MGM at Swan>(we will be renting our OKW points for the 1 bedroom for the first time). Earlier in December, I don't think transportation is much of an issue at either OKW or VWL.

This question has been asked before and depending on who responds, it can go either way. Since WLV is our home, we are staying there in two 2 BR units from the 19th to the 27th. Hearing all these people talk about how beautifully its decorated, it makes us homesick. BTW, don’t forget to bring some lights and a small tree. I also heard some people have a tree delivered to their room!!

I really think, just because of all the festivities and decorations, you will have a great time at any resort.

VWL in December! It just feels like Christmas-the woods, the decorations, the lobby full of festive folks!

DW and I own at both resorts. We stayed at OKW during Christmas season before VWL was open and to be honest we were very disappointed. Unless you were right at HH you wouldn't know what season it was. Even the HH was sparsely decorated.

VWL on the other hand is absolutely breath taking at Christmas. The whole place just ooozes atmosphere.

VWL HANDS DOWN FOR CHRISTMAS We will be there for two weeks in December also. It is beautiful. Maybe we will see you there.

I love OKW and that is our principal place of ownership. OKW is very nice at Christmas, but the Christmas decorations and atmosphere at VWL may be the very best of the WDW resorts. If you want to really get the Christmas feeling and ambience, I would go with VWL.
