Any thoughts on the benefits of OKW over SSR? Also benefits of going through Disney or TS Store? Any guidance would be welocomed. :confused3

1) OKW has larger rooms
2) All OKW studios have 2 queen beds (which may or may not be a plus for you)
3) OKW has a relatively large full service restaurant, but lacks a food court
4) OKW connects to DtD by boat and bus, there is also a walking trail...it is about a mile.

1)SSR has 12 additional years of contract life
2)SSR studios have Queen bed and full sleeper sofa
3)SSR has an easy DtD location for walking or boat
4)SSR has a nice food court, and has just added a small full service reataurant.

Both resorts are conected to parks by bus transportation, and the ride length is about the same, OKW is a little closer to EPCOT.

Benefits Disney vs. resale...
Through Disney:

1) Points are available almost immediately...no waiting to clear Disney's ROFR.
2) Financing is readily available, if you need it.
3) Immediate access to DVC discounts/perks

Through resale:

1) TSS had a post stating new financing was available :)
2) Generally less expensive than purchasing through Disney
3) Easy choice of several "sold out" resorts, whereas with Disney ou may need to waitlist if you don't want SSR.

Resale Negatives:
1)Points become available after contract offer clears ROFR, closing takes place, and Disney enters you in the system...can take quite a lot of time.
2) Disney may exercise their ROFR, meaning you'll need to start the process over.

Also, keep in mind that the points/night cost is usually about 10-15% less at OKW than SSR. So a week in a 1BR during "dream season" would take 225 points at SSR, but only 196 points at OKW.

those to me are very different resorts.

OKW - is lay back, relaxed, comfortable.

SSR - is lovely, refined, the best was used here and it shows.

just depends upon what you like.

My first DVC trip was to OKW. It was beautiful. My home resort is SSR and I'll be staying there this December. Every resort has it's advantages and disadvantages. It just depends on what types of things you are looking for. For example, SSR is beside DTD so there's easy access. You can walk to it, where OKW you have to bus it or boat it.
The main reason we stayed at OKW for our 1st DVC trip was because the rooms were bigger and less points and we had 6 people going. Other than that there was really no other big reason. In fact, I was kinda upset that my 1st DVC trip wasn't in my home resort. No matter where you choose all of them all nice.

I don't know much about the DVC by Resale people. But I do know that you can pay for your DVC ownership with your Disney Visa card. Lots of points there!!!!! Since we just bought into DVC last year and out it on our Visa card we automatically had $200 reward $$. Nice!! Plus you can alway pay it on your Disney Visa, get the points, and then transfer it to something else if you find better interest somewhere.

Have fun!

Thanks for the info. everyone. Great points to think about. Love the idea of using the Dis. visa to pay for it. You can then use the $ to help off-set the dues.
Thanks again! :thumbsup2

FYI, you can also walk to DTD from OKW, and it will take about 15 minutes from the time you leave OKW until you walk into the back side near CDS.
