Why are the the points required to stay at OKW Sooooo very much less. I understand that it's the oldert resort, but why do the points go so farther here?

Doesn't OKW also have larger rooms?

It was the first one built. When it turned into a success, Disney discovered they could make the rooms smaller and require more points and still get buyers. Think now, the price per point has doubled since the earlier days and DVC is still selling great.

Yes, don't tell anyone but the one bedroom is larger than our first house - that is why we bought in 1996 - the room points are less because it was the first resort and they CANNOT change point value, just the seasons. The best value you can get - the rooms at HH and Vero are much larger also. They figured out that after they built these three WONDERFUL resorts (we we own at all three) that they could put more people in smaller rooms and charge more $$. If you stay at OKW, HH or Vero you will be very spoiled at the space.:cool1:

We visited OKW when they first built, but we weren't ready to commit to another mortgage. We bought in 98. We have not gone back to OKW yet, but we will in the near future. Best dollar spent I think....

cool, I guess I was forgetting about the pre established points required to stay here, they're locked in at what they can reuire as far as points per night.

We just got back from OKW today and really enjoyed our stay. We had a 1 Bedroom and although it is bigger, I can't really say it was so much bigger that it made a difference. The biggest difference to the eye was just the hallway going to the bedroom. I actually liked the setup at BWV's better, because you could enter the bathroom and not have to go through the bedroom (good when our daughter was sleeping in the bedroom).

We have stayed at 3 DVC resorts (SSR,BWV,OKW) - all have their own charm. I loved the value at OKW, but so far it was our least favorite of the three. Now, in perspective, least favorite does not mean we did not like the resort, we thought it was very nice.

The newer buildings at OKW have a door from the laundry room into the bathroom, so you do not need to go through the bedroom to get to the bathroom. Hopefully someone will post the exact numbers of the buildings with the extra door--about #30 and higher or some such thing.

Less points and larger rooms. Exactly why I bought at OKW:goodvibes

Yes, the buildings numbered 30 and higher have that extra door - which is much nicer. Can't wait to check in to OKW on March 24!:thumbsup2

We love OKW, my kids complain if we don't stay there, they say it is not home!!

We had that setup in one of the upper 20's buildings a few years ago.

Count me in as someone who really appreciates the larger room size at OKW!

I have been an owner at OKW since 1994 and have stayed at BWV and BCV and I disagree that the hallway is what gives an illusion of being bigger. It is BIGGER. The full kitchen, island , full table and chairs are VERY different from the tiny kitchen with 2 stools area and small table with banket ...and the living rooms are much more sq. footage with more seating. It really does make a significant difference to me. If space is an issue for a larger party, than OKW is superior to what I have seen in BCV and BWV. I would not hesitate to stay at the others because it is usually just the 3 of us, but like I said, larger parties will feel the difference at OKW.

::yes::
The whole thing is bigger. In the OKW great room, you have room for a full sofa, a love seat and a chair with a footrest. At BCV, BWV, SSR and VWL, there is a sofa and a chair.
The dining room table at OKW will seat 6 comfortably, and 8 a little tightly if you bring in chairs.
We have stayed at all the WDW villas and can say that the OKW extra room does make a difference if you have a large party.

Don't forget, you can also seat four around the table on the porch.

or more.
We have had more than 4. When we had a lock off, we've brought the 2 chairs from the lock off studio part and had 6 people (sometimes plus a wheelchair) out on the porch.

They just underpriced OKW pointwise basically. But they didnt' realize that until all the other resorts opened. And now they can't change the points because they're legally locked in.

My DS also complains if we don't stay at OKW. That's "Mickey Mouse's House" to him.

I wonder if they will change it for Feb 1, 2042. Or is the existing contract merely extended for the extra 15 years.
