(This will be seem a bit disjointed because I have only been home for brief periods between hospital time with my very sick sister.)
Arrived at OKW about 1:00 on Sun. May 1. Room was ready (1 bedrm, # 4023). Requests for non-smoking on 2nd floor near Turtle pool were all met. The unit overlooks the pond. Traffic along Community Drive was slightly visible and audible but no problem whatsoever. Room was in great condition. Only "problem" was dirty dishes accidentally left in dishwasher.
Weather was fine the first couple of days but mostly cloudy and some light rain other days. One Illuminations night was marred by a downpour which also damaged my digital camera. (Camera mostly recovered, except for one window which no longer works.) The friend who joined me this time was grateful for the minimal sun since she does not tolerate heat well. We did parks early in the day and then again in the evening and were able to hit all the highlights.
Soarin' was wonderful and it was great to be able to ride Small World again after its long refurbishment. The topiaries on display in Epcot were amazing. We used the DDE card several times. Savings at Boma alone for a few trips will more than pay for the card. Also loved the new food court in the Land. Food is very gourmet and the new central checkout system makes so much more sense than the old way. Managed to eat banana splits at B & C and at PORS. Got yummy treats at the new Goofy shop in DTD. Loved our Earl of Sandwich meal and also our stop at Sweet Tomatoes (on the way back from Belz). Didn't get to try the new Wolfgang Puck Express in DTD. That will be a must during Oct. trip. (Do I sound like a foodie?????) Cirque was as fantastic as always (and now I see that there was a 25% discount added as of May 1--oh well).
A very special event was meeting DISer Jim (magicalmcwho) and his DW Laura and DD Andrea at MK one evening, then for dinner another night. What a lovely family! I had hoped to post a photo in signature, but the Epcot downpour ruined that idea! Hoping to meet them again in December, when I'll be traveling with DH. If you've never had a chance to meet-up with someone from this board while in WDW, go for it! (P.S. to Jim, if you read this: Love that Texas mug!)
This trip reaffirmed my gratitude for DVC. My friend had not been to WDW since 1972 and was blown away by the changes. She is a breast cancer survivor and one who is always generously giving of her modest income to others in need. It was a privilege to be with her as she experienced the magic. She was in awe of the beautiful OKW accommodations and expressed many times her appreciation for the peaceful break we took in our unit each afternoon. The few light showers were no problem with the large OKW covered balconies! Without DVC I would never have been able to treat my friend to a well-deserved respite from the worries at home.
Now counting the many days until our F & W trip to BWV in Oct.
