Hi all!

We will be staying at Old Key West for the first time, and I have a few questions!

First of all, we lucked up and were able to get a trade through our Fairfield Timeshare for an exchange through II into the DVC. I figured this is a good way to convince the hubby to buy into DVC.

Here are my questions. . . . We love to bird watch, is there any particular place we should request?
We are also having our two nieces join us for their first trip to Disney and they will be celebrating their 10 & 11 birthdays. . . . Will OKW do anything to help us with little "surprises"?

I know when we were at the Contemporary last year for Hubby's 30th, they left a card and photo wishing him a happy birthday in our room.

The only two requests that we did were high floor and non- smoking and we are also in a 1 bedroom.

any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Tifany

If you enjoy watching the birds, I would add "golf course view" to your requests. Early in the morning you'll often see all kinds of birds out on the course before the golfers begin to appear. You'll also see bunnies along with the ducks and assorted other wildlife.

Personally, I have never gotten an acknowledgement from DVC for any of a variety of occasions we've celebrated including 16th and 40th birthdays and 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries. That's not to say that some people have had luck getting something special. It's hit or miss and not something to count on.

If you are staying in a one-bedroom, you might also want to request buildings 30 or higher. This will give you an entrance to the bathroom through the laundry room. Otherwise, people have to make a little cut through the corner of the master bedroom to get to the bathroom.

We also have a great <a href="http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/OKWmap.jpg">map of OKW</a> right here on our site.

Here is some other <a href="http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1251562#post1251562">OKW information</a> you may find useful.

Have a great trip!

We also love to bird watch, and really loved our villa in Building 52. It had both a golf course view (tho limited by trees) and a little creek to attract birds and ducks. I feel so fortunate-on our first stay at OKW, they sent DS balloons and a card when I mentioned it was his graduation. It was such a pleasant surprise-after all the unacknowledged anniversaries, birthdays, etc. in our previous 16 trips to WDW!

I like building 55 - so I hawk a couple of times - and a eagle once - or I was told it was eagle - I am not a bird watcher - but they are all over OKW.

I wish I could do a Benedict Arnold/traitor smiley for ncligs, Doc, can you help?

Is it because we are getting a Beach Cottage at VB instead of a GV at OKW?

No, its your recomending other sites:
Here is a map for you below. If you want to be near the HH, I would suggest buildings 11-14 or 23-26.

Until Doc had to point out that you don't need to stray from this site for maps.

Were you trying to insinuate that the DIS does not have maps????

Wow, look at that, you fixed your faux pa whilst I was catting and pasting, crafty, but I still wish I could do the traitor smiley.

We were at BWV for my DH's 50th bday in April. I had arranged for an outside company to come in and put balloons and champaigne and confettii and all that sort of stuff in the room while we were out. I had to leave a key for them at the front desk - I made the key arrangements and stuff with the manager at the front after I got there -tho I had made the other arrangements ahead of time. Anyway, in addition to the stuff I'd ordered, BWV put a card and a huge chocolate "painting" of BWV (a huge block of chocolate) and truffles w/ even more confetti and stuff. I didn't ask for it- it was a surprise. I think like someone else said - it all depends on who you mention it to . . . after you get there!

pm me if you want info on the event company

I have noted some very nice bird watching while riding the Trumbo Ferry to DD especially in the late afternoon or near dusk. Along the golf course you may also see lots of birds.

As for the birthday, check with the front desk they may have suggestions for things that you can order to help celebrate his birthday. During our first trip home we ordered a birthday cake for my niece. It had Mickey on it and came with balloons, paper plates, party hats, napkins and a card signed by Mickey and Minnie. (He may be a bit old for the Mickey touches but ask what may be available.)
