OKW/SSR comparisons please

If you want more privacy and space, pick OKW. The layout of the OKW 2BRs is kind of at angles (hard to describe), so instead of the master bedroom suite being right off of the living room, it is down a little all. I really love the OKW floorplan, especially since you'll have your Mom and kids with you.

The hallway of SSR buildings.
Nice and clean, just the way a hallway should be. ;)

Yeah, I think personally the hallways at SSR are absolutely lovely. We are probably going to shoot our family Christmas card picture in one. Thanks Seabright for the great idea.

OP: SSR is very nice. I have stayed in a two bedroom twice, once with my parents and once with my husband's family. The resort is brand new which is nice. Once we had a car, once we didn't and both times it worked out great. My little old mother has Alzheimers and cancer and was able to walk from our outlying unit in the Paddock to the main area, no problem. Regardless of location, you will have a busstop, quiet pool (or main pool) and plenty of parking nearby. I believe OKW is the same. I think you would be happy at OKW, it also looks lovely. For our trips I simply would not consider anything but SSR since its our home resort and getting our two bedroom units set up way in advance of our multi family trips was a priority. I think you can't go wrong either way!

Those were my presumptions when I made my reservations for SSR & OKW 2 months ago. I even told that to the CM over the phone that SSR is like OKW and she said "NO". She was right. OKW is not like SSR. SSR is subpar to any of the WDW resorts in my opinion with regards to its build quality, location, overall theme harmony.
More on that hideous dark hallways later. Motel 6 may have a better looking hallways than SSR.

I have to give you credit. You are persistent in your dead horse beating, and you are everywhere with it. These boards are all about people's opinions, you are just a tad more vocal and negative than most. To think, to bash a WDW resort with such effort, yoy have to have better WDW memories than this?

I have found that OKW is much better than SSR. I personally found SSR to be unclean, substandard (to quote someone else), and the housekeeping was completely slow and didn't do their jobs well. We complained a couple of times but remained unhappy with the stay. The elevators were centrally located, but the walk to the end of the hall rivals the walk at Wilderness Lodge.

OKW has much larger rooms, the one bedroom has a double bathroom that also has double access in some of the rooms. I like the color decor better, and found that the access to the rooms from the car much easier. On the flip side - I get lost with the Disney busses every time I always manage to get off at the wrong stop :confused3

I will never stay at SSR again - I was that unhappy with it. Good luck in your decisions!

Well, decision made. Thanks for all the insight. We are staying in a 2 bedroom at OKW.

Looking forward to our first DVC trip, hopefully soon it will be with our own points instead of a friends.

They are hallways, a way to walk to your room. Nothing more, nothing less. They are open to the outside at points so you can get fresh air, which is nice. But, again, they are hallways.

I'm starting to think that you have some kind of obsessive compulsive disorder to have to go on and on about the hallways so much. Either that or you are just a very bored and frustrated individual with nothing better to do.

As far as your opinion of SSR goes, you've stated it over and over and over. We know, and frankly couldn't care less anymore. It's your opinion, many feel differently, why do you have to carry on this pathetic vendetta? Don't go there...end of problem.

Subpar as far as location!!! You are kidding me, right?? To say SSR is subpar to OKW in regards to location, is ridiculous. They are right next to each other. They are both in the same location. You are really grasping at straws now! :rotfl2:

Ahh, but they can't rival the hallways at BWV!!! BWV is still the clear winner. You go BWV!!! :cool1:

To say that ANY DVC resort is "subpar" is just ridiculous to me.............they are all gorgeous resorts with something different to offer everyone. This debate goes on with all the DVC resorts. Everyone has their own tastes and preferences in what THEY want out of a resort. Some prefer quiet and serene.....some bustling with action........some decor formal.....some decor casual.......etc
There is nothing wrong with any of the DVC resorts----they are all unique and different in their own right.
Enjoy your trip Michele :cool1:

Big Sigh. Okay we get it now. Next time I happily stay at SSR, I will warn my children to watch for people lurking in the hallways snapping photos. It must save you a bundle on park tickets since you obviously spend your days and nights hallway hopping instead of park hopping.

Michele: Glad you made a decision, have a wonderful extended family trip to WDW! I am sure after your stay at OKW you will look into getting your own points very soon!

The hallway of SSR buildings.

You walk the hallways at vWL, BWV, BCV and you will find "hidden mickeys." You walk the walkways at OKW and you will see "sea shells" embedded on the concrete. Walk this dark (picture was taken at miday with a slow shuuter speed to make the picture brighter..notice the lights are "on") hallway at SSR and you will see "Andreas Fault" at the bottom of your feet.

It amazes me that someone has nothing better to do in life than to drone on and on in post after post about a hallway.

This just in (SSR will be closed for the month of August while crews remove the hallways. Guest will be required to find there on way in while this phase is in progress) OP you will have a great time no matter which resort you stay in. Have a great trip

Did anyone else ever feel like they were living the movie 'Groundhog Day'?

To the OP-both resorts are awesome. You can't go wrong either way. While you're at OKW, please take the time to stop by and enjoy SSR as well.

I was just thinking that same thing. Amazing that in my two stays at SSR, I never spent enough time in the hallways to take pictures or post about it on the dis. Now at BWV I must say the hallways were heavy on my mind each time we made the journey from our room to the elevator. I guess I should have taken a video or something, had no idea hallways were such a thing of interest.
