OKW slide is now open - with photos!

If only it were open when we were there. It SoOH fits the themeing!
I think this, and better fast food are all that is missing from OKW...A best kept WDW secret....

Thanks for the photos, Doc! When we were there in December, we thought it was a bit big for the area. Do you have any photos taken from the bridge?

Love it-- fits in perfectly...
Doc or anyone---are there stairs or a ramp to the top? DS 8 will want to try it, and uses a w/c.
Hope is has a ramp, that is much needed within DVC.

Nice to hear people pleased with the slide.

I asked a WDW engineer this question Thursday night. He said stairs.

I don't think there are ramps on any slides anywhere at WDW because they could get very dangerous since they would always be wet.

Seems like it could be done, there could be extensive drainage, perhaps even a grate type ramp that wouldn't hold any water, but padded enough that one could walk on with bare feet.

SSR has a handicapped slide with a lift mechanism.

Thanks for the ramp/stairs replies--
bummed that it's stairs up to the slide.
The WL pool has a ramp to the slide, and my son has never had so much fun-- he got to slide by himself. We love OKW but will have to do VWL next time, I guess...

Our girls screamed and laughed when they saw the pictures. thanks Doc!
We will be there in April and can't wait.

From the pictures, it looks more like it's made from snow than sand. Is this how it looks like in person or does the sand color show up better? I've never seen the existing stuff, so I don't know what color that is.

Also, if anyone has tried out the slide, what is it like? Does it compare with any of the other resorts?

Thanks Doc ! The castle slide looks great---can't wait till we're there this summer !

We were disappointed that the weather turned cold the day the pool opened.I really wanted to try the slide, but couldn't bring myself to do it in 60 degree weather. Oh well. The trip was otherwise wonderful. I think the sand color of the castle looks very realistic and very appealing when seen in person.

so what is the slide like??

DD age 12 looked at it and kind of shrugged her shoulders, she loves the slide at Vero and at the Contemporary, how does this compare.

Does it go around and around, or straight down???

I know it was mentioned in another thread earlier, but it is worth repeating. The parking around check in is going to be horrible, and I feel sorry for the folks staying in buildings 12 and 13, which are right across the road from check in, because people using the pool will be parking there as well. Parking at the Hospitality House is already difficult.
