Dear All,

I will be going home to OKW for the first time in Nov.
I have read a lot on these boards re room quality etc,so when I phoned and made our reservations for our studio and 1 bed I asked for one of the newer buildings. When my confimation came thru it mentioned bldg 62,which I believe is fairly near to the hospitality house etc.I realise that the building is not guaranteed, but have I made the right choice here?
We wanted to be fairly near to everything, but not so that we would not be able to sleep at night thru noise etc, also would there be parking outside as I read that some of the homes do not have parking outside them.Would I be better off nearer to one of the quiet pools or in the wooded bit?Just 1 more thing if we arrive and the room is sub standard would they move you to a nicer room,Im worried as we will be there Nov18-Dec1,and its a busy time, probably panicking unnecssasarily,Can anyone advise?????

Even the old buildings are maintained pretty well. Location should be your primary concern.

We have never been disappointed with a room at OKW. The few minor concerns we've had have all been taken care of within minutes of calling for assistance (light bulbs, broken fan switch, extra tissues, etc.)

Building 62 is one of the "new" buildings (now almost 2 years "old") and it does have plenty of parking. Building 64 is the ONLY building at OKW which has to share parking with nearby buildings (63, 15 and 16).

Don't worry about your room...just have a great trip! :)

We have never had trouble with parking. It has always been close to the room. We try to ask for a second or third floor room, because we think the views are much better. Once we got a room on the first floor and we did not have a view--the deck was outlined with pine trees and we could not see anything and the room was fairly dark. All our other visits have been great. Our favorite building in 52 or 54. It is next to a small pool. It is quiet. We walk about a block to the bus. The grill is at the pool. We have a view of the golf course on one side. The other building has a view of the lagoon going to DD. You can walk to Disney Institute or the Golf Club House. It is a pretty walk.

We were put in bldg. 64 on our visit to OKW....

The room was beautiful and stunningly quiet, but the parking was definitely not "right in front of our door"...... I was wondering how everyone seemed to think parking was so great when I found out that this is the only building like this! And the closest parking area was really small...we were lucky to get a space there when we went in and out.

I have to say I didn't think the location was all that convenient to anything, except maybe the front gate to get in and out quickly- but it wasn't any worse than any other location.

Where ever your room is I'm sure it will be great.....

There's a thread about noise somewhere else on here. But OKW is generally very quiet. Like I said in that thread, just avoid the rooms that are next to the rotaries that are on the bus routes. You WILL hear every bus!

As the buildings are updated on an ongoing basis, many of the older ones are "new". I've rarely had a problem with parking. It does get crowded, but how often do you really use the car anyway? And if you don't like your room for any reason? Ask to be moved.

We were in 64 which is across from 62 on the second floor last vacation when my daughter was in a wheel chair due to foot surgery, it was great having the elevator, you'll love the location don't worry about noise.

Madmouse,

It all depends on what you mean by "substandard". As I recall, several years ago OKW instituted a charge for moving to another room unless there is a significant "problem" with it because too many folks were asking for changes. I am sure if the room had serious problems there would be no charge, but there would be if the change is for a better view or location.

We have never been disappointed by any of our room assignments except the time it was not cleaned until after 6:00 PM. They did pay for our dinner at Olivia's while we waited to make up for it. :)

We usually try for a room in the Turtle Pond area because it's close to the quiet pool and bus stop and has a convenient snack bar (Turtle Shack). We like it so much that, although we have been members since 1995, we have been to the main pool only once. :bounce:

Dear Madmouse,

We have stayed in a 2 bedroom in building #62 twice, once was on the first floor and then in March I requested #62 again and got the 2nd floor.

We...4 adults and 3 boys the first time and then 4 adults, 3 boys and a baby, in March were very satisfied. We liked the location and the view was wonderful!

Actually, we did not hear any noise, but then we were there with 4 children!

June
