I understand rooms in Bldgs. 23 thru 26 were being refurbished some time in Jan or Feb. Has anyone stayed there since then if they are reopened? What was done in the rooms. Were mattresses replaced. Also does anyone know when the mattresses were changed out in Bldg. 13? We were in 13 in January and the mattress in the king and the doubles were terrible. I am booked in HH area for the end of the year and do not want 13 again. I hope they were not new bed. If anyone has been there please let me know. Thanks

OKW is in a constant state of refurbishment. They just keep moving from one section to the next. I would say each unit is completely redone about every 4-5 years. There is no real way to know whic units are done when, but when they refurbish, they usually reglaze tiles, replace appliances, mattresses, carpets, apholstery, and some other furniture. I suspect this time they will also be replacing the TVs with flat panels too.

I stayed in 13 too. The king bed was terrible. The pull out sofa was better!!!

We have stayed in OKW at least 12 times and the beds in bldg 13 were the worst. The first nite I slept on the sleeper, and ds used the cushions from the sleeper. DH and DD suffered. The next day housekeeping brought us numerous foam pads for under the sheets. I had three of them on my side of the king and I finally slept the rest of the vacation. I hope they were not new beds. We love OKW but may have to try other DVC resorts if all the beds get replaced with these mattresses.
Does anyone know how the beds at AKV are. Are they very hard?

Wow I have seen other posts about this recently. Did you complain to the management. I sure hope they get the message that these new beds are not comfy. We were thinking of switching to OKW from SSR, but I am too afraid I will get a room with the new beds!! I need my sleep!

Many of the sleepers have been replaced with the ones that have cushions that do not remove. I might guess that you may have had the old bedding. How long ago did this happen?

Carol, the new sleep sofas at OKW DO have cushions that have to be removed. They are the memory foan type mattress on the pull out, but the cushions come off. In fact, our complaint about these sofas is that they are very uncomfortable to sit on as a sofa. We tend to use the love seat all the time, because the sofa is difficult to sit on.

I'm very interested in this thread because we will be staying at OKW beginning on the 24th with DS and DDiL who is 7 months pregnant. I'm very concerned that she will end up with a hard mattress and will be unable to sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any areas that may have some newer, more comfortable beds. Right now we have requested 2 studios in the Turtle Pond Road area.

Any suggestions?

In January we were in building 46, and they had new comfy mattresses that had a bit of a pillow top. MUCH better than the old OKW ones those of use who have owned for many years have been used to. I believe we also had the new ones in building 56 last year, but the bed we had in building 38 a year ago had the concrete ones yet.

dianeschlicht,
Thanks so much for the feedback. I was hoping that some of the rooms would have more comfortable mattresses. I'm going to call Members Services next week and ask them to put a note on our reservation. When I purchased DVC last April I made my son a joint owner. This will be his and DDiL's first trip down as DVC members and I really want them to have a wonderful trip. this will also be their last chance to get away before the baby comes.

Comparing OKW king with the AKV King......AKV was MUCH more comfy. Slept like a baby there.

but has anyone stayed in rooms 23 thru 26 since the rehab ??? Can you comment on the beds????:confused3:confused3

We would have to find out if they are done refurbing them. If anyone has stayed there since the refurb, we haven't heard about it. I'm guessing they could be just finished now.

I am heading down to a 2 bedroom HH area in May. I would LOVE to know if there are any room resports on new mattresses. Last year when we stayed ina two bedroom in building 28 (?) I swear I had bruises from the rock hard mattress! Any help out there???

So our eternal gratitude goes to..... the first person who returns from okw who knows whether or not the beds in the HH have been refurbed as well as the rooms.!!!!!;)

we're leaving Friday for 6 days at OKW... I now have an assignment ( besides having a GREAT TIME of course!)
We don't know where we'll be lodged but will report back!

I hope you are in the HH area since that is where we are staying in January and I'm not sure if I am going to try to change resorts to AKV at the 7 month mark if I'm able to get anything there. Please let us know about the mattresses if you are there. Thanks.
Housekeeping was wonderful in getting us the foam pads for under the sheets. We had them for all of the beds in our 2 bedroom unit. I had three of them on my side of the king, dh had 2 of them and DD had 2 in her bed and so did DS. After we called housekeeping someone brought them over then we went out and when we returned more of them were in our room, so we used all of them then the next day after we returned from the park there were more ( I think they were multiplying while we were out:rotfl2: We did call for them to pick some of them back up. I don't know what the story was with all of them after one call, but believe me we did need more than one on each bed. Once again it was building 13. Room 1331 I believe.

I am confused..... Are these the new beds or old beds that are so uncomfortable?? Hate to think that the new ones are bad. Hoping just the old ones haven't been replaced yet! Anyone know which ones we are talking about?
