OKW Room sizes?

At Old Key West would it be better to rent 2 studios or a 2 bedroom unit? We are a family of 6. There is a big point difference. Please give me your opinions and or experiences.

To me, it depends on how many nights you'll be there, if you'll want to prepare any meals in the room, and the ages of your those in your group. Studios, of course, have no stove, just a "kitchenette" with a microwave.

For groups af adults, we break into two studios with no problem, and have milk, cereal and coffee for breakfast. With kids, I see the advantages of a 2 bedroom. The two bedrooms are, of course, a studio AND a 1 bedroom combined. They are quite roomy.

You do get an awful lot more in a two bedroom. For starters, you've got a full kitchen, especially handy for breakfast. A two-bedroom also includes the jacuzzi bath and gives you a central meeting place in the large living room area and the outdoor balcony. You'll also have the washer/dryer right in your unit and a dishwasher.

Two studios also works and makes for a very nice trip to WDW -- you just don't get the full "feel" you get in a 1, 2 or 3 bedroom. I'm assuming that everyone would be able to stay on their own (or the parents would split up). There are no connecting studios and it's not guaranteed that they will be near each other (though DVC does do their best to satisfy that request).

Definitely go with the 2 br! Due to the fact that the OKW studio has 2 beds instead of a bed and sleeper sofa, and the location of the kitchenette (in a small hallway leading to the bathroom), the OKW studio loses all feel and convenience of a true studio room. A studio room's main advantage are the different sleeping, lr, kitchen/dining areas; at OKW you do not have this. An OKW studio is like staying in a regular hotel room with a wet bar. Not only will the 2 br give you a lot more room but you will also have a lr area where people can sit on the couch or chair to watch tv, read etc., plus you will have a w&d and jacuzzi tub.

From those of us who stay at OKW all the time, I think it is difficult to imagine 2 studios instead of the 2 bedroom unit.

When are you going, and what is the make up of your group (adults, kids, families etc)? If you are two seperate families, two studios would probably work, but you would have so much more convenience if you did the 2 bedroom. As Pam said, there is a full kitchen, full laundry room and in room jacuzzi as well as a large living room and deck. We like to have an occational meal plus all breakfasts in the villa, so you can look at that as a savings as well. Just be sure you know what you want at the grocery store before you arrive. The studios will not be connecting, and may not be in the same building. At least with the 2 bedroom, you will all be easy access, and still have plenty of privacy.

The studios at OKW are 390 Sq. Ft, while the 2 bedroom is 1410 Sq. Ft. Quite a difference!

Are you planning to rent points from a member or direct from Disney? If you rent from a member, the cost is around $10 per point, depending on time of year etc. The number of points needed also is dependant on time of year. For example:
a studio at the end of August for one week would be 98 points ($980) or $1960. A two bedroom that same time would be 263 points a week, or $2630. That is $670 extra for 630 extra sq. ft, and the convenience and cost savings of the kitchen and in room laundry, plus being nearby for touring convenience. It would cost you far more to rent two rooms with that much convenience from Disney. The only thing that would come close is a FW cabin, and that is a trailer without full size bedrooms etc. I dare say you would not come close to anything else on-site for that price for a week. Bear in mind that other times of the year are far less points than my example.

2BR no doubt about it - lots of room, flexibility, large porch, full kitchen - just fabulous accomodation standard

If you have the points get the 2BR. That's why we bought into DVC -- so we can stay in one unit with seven. It's not so much the size as it is staying together with places to hang out -- couch, table -- or to take a nap without having to disturb one another.


On the other hand, if you won't spend much time in the unit or if you need to save points, it may not be worth spending the extra points.

We went through this same dilema last year, we were going with our 2 DS's, 20 and 23 yo, virtually adults. But we finally settled on the 2 BR and are very glad we did. Besides what's been mentioned, the big living room where we all could sit around together made for some nice family time (especially important since 23 yo DS left home to start a job 3 hrs away the day after we got home). Also, remember-3 TV's instead of 2, important in this family-one loves golf, one loves jazz, one watches Disney TV over and over!
