 My sister and I went to visit with the AAA travel agent on Friday and told her we would like 8 of us to stay at a 2 bdrm at OKW. Now my sister and I realize there is a 7 month window period for non DVC members, but we were just checking on availabilty and had wanted to ask her some questions before we actually reserved. The travel agent after some time said she was able to book us. Do you think this is really possible or that maybe we are just on a waiting list until Feburary? We are happy about it, but at the same time somewhat surprised. Also because it was taking her awhile and at first she said there was no availablity for the dates we were requesting, I was wondering if the after the 7 month window period there would be more openings? It just seemed odd to me that this far in advance AAA did not show more vacancies for the first two weeks of August 04. After some juggling of dates we were able to get 10 days the first part of Aug.
Does this make sense to anyone else who is not a member but has stayed at DVC resorts?
Happy but confused in Montana.

It's possible. You should always just go ahead and try to book a DVC resort like you book any other WDW resort. If they are no vacancies, there is always a chance something may open up closer to the date.

There are several ways rooms become available at DVC. No one but Disney knows exactly how they are allocated. First, Disney retain ownership of 4% of the resorts. This is to allow for maintenance but they also rent these rooms out when available. Second, every time a DVC members does something besides stay at a DVC resort, the points/rooms they give up are then rented to the general public by Disney and third, Disney will rent to the general public any rooms not reserved by members 60 days or less prior to check-in.

You got lucky but it is feasbile that the agent could make the reservation.
