OKW rental question

Can you book a room at OKW directly thru the Disney website, or can you only get this property by renting points from an owner?

You should be able to book directly through Disney but you would save yourself money by renting the points from an owner. I can understand that there are risk associated with the renting but I've done it and had a very good experience and saved myself a lot of money (around $700) by not booking with Disney.

If you're staying on the weekend you may be cheaper going through Disney. Weekend points for the one bedroom I stayed in were 54 for Friday and Sat. At the avg $10 a point that $540/night. Through CRO with an AP discount the 1 bedroom was $329/night plus tax.

However if I had stayed during the week the points were 22/night or $220 a night and no tax - much better than $329 plus tax!

Renting through CRO you also get daily houskeeping, but during the week it's just not worth the extra $$.

I rented points for OKW studio in 2003 through ebay I paid 530.00 for a sun.-fri.stay. We loved it and I think it was a much better value then the moderates,and worth the extra money then to stay at the values.

I called Disney this week to check on 1/6-8 next year and was given a price for OKW. He did tell me that you are unable to book VWL like this because it was so small compared to OKW. Not sure how true that is?

You can book VWL through CRO. We were going to SSR for Easter weekend and decided last week to see if we could get either BWV or VWL. Got VWL and at an AP rate.

You "can" book at either. "Unlikely" would have been a better term than "unable". Probably what he meant was that OKW is much more likely to be available for cash. It sort of works like this... if a DVC member wants to stay somewhere else (Colorado skiing, Tucson, on a Disney cruise, etc), they can use their points to do this. Basically, they are giving up the room to CRO for cash use and Disney uses the cash (sort of) to book the cruise, or whatever. Probably because OKW is SO much larger than VWL, there are more likely rooms that have been "traded" in to CRO that can be sold for cash. VWL is the smallest resort, OKW is the largest (until SSR is completed), so OKW rooms are much more likely to be available.
