Did I read somewhere that once the OKW renovations are complete, the 1BR villas will all have the sleeper chairs so that it can accommodate 5 people?

Yes, it is on DVCnews.com

OKW refurb begins

Written by Tim Krasniewski | April 26, 2010

The refurbishment project at Disney's Old Key West Resort has begun with the recent gutting of Building 30. All resort villas are being completely renovated with new paint and carpet, upholstery, granite countertops and more. The project will take the better part of a year with completion scheduled for the spring of 2011.

During this week's annual meetings it was announced that guest rooms at Disney's Old Key West Resort were scheduled for a major refurbishment beginning in 2010. The project involves substantial updates to the units including the addition of a twin sleeper chair to the larger villas.

Similar to the current refurb at Disney's BoardWalk Villas, the units at Old Key West will receive extensive replacements and upgrades. The project is slated to include the following:

* New carpet
* Wood floors will be refinished
* New blinds and drapes
* Units will be repainted
* New upholstery on sofas and love seats
* Twin-size sleeper chair added to living room (one bedroom and larger)
* Granite countertops
* New cabinet hardware
* Ceiling fans to be replaced
* New lamps in living room and master bedroom
* Current televisions replaced with flat panel units

The refurbishment is scheduled to begin sometime in the spring of 2010 and will run into spring 2011.

The sleeper chair is such a great addition to the OKW rooms. I can't wait to see the renovated rooms.

:yay: Thank you so much!! I cant wait to go myself! Just made the flight reservations and now I am making my list of things to bring and order from GG...and then I am going to set up an OL! I dont want to be a half member...I want ALL the way IN! :rotfl:

The only thing I am not doing yet is the AP's - its just me and DBF this first time home and I dont think we are doing the parks...just getting to know our new home and resort hopping with a sprinkle of DTD and maybe an EPCOT segway tour!:cloud9:

Welcome Home OKW neighbor !! We :love: our OKW home too & can't wait to see the newly refurbished villas on our next trip home :goodvibes

This is exciting!!! We're going in October of this year - cannot wait. We love Disney, and this will be our first time at OKW. :D We have reserved a 2 bedroom villa near the HH. Do you know the renovation schedule for the buildings? I'll keep my fingers crossed that we get a renovated unit!!!

We were thinking of switching to OWK for a July/August trip this summer. Would that be a bad idea if a refurb is going on? I know some people have mentioned the HH bus stop is getting redone, does anyone know when that will be open again?

I wouldn't worry because buildings undergoing interior remodel will not be occupied by guests during that time ( presently it has been posted here that #30, 32 & 33 are undergoing interior refurbishment ). If you wanted 1 or 2 bedroom villa with sleeper chair in living room then you would need to request a newly refurbished villa when you book, but the refurbishment of building you are requesting may not be completed by your travel time & even if some buildings are complete by then it may not be guaranteed that you will get a refurbished villa, so you will want to ask about this when booking to be clear on everything; typically with DVC when you make requests on your reservation they are just requests and accommodated to the best of their ability but they are not guaranteed.

idk about HH bus stop; wasn't aware of this but if this is taking place then I am guessing that they've arranged an alternate stop nearby HH area.

:goodvibes

Expect those buildings to be some of the last renovated, since they seem to be doing the renos in the order that they did the exterior ones the past two years. They are starting on Turtle Pond Road, and that's what they did before when they did the exteriors and they ended with the buildings accross from HH and the 60's, so those will likley be last again.

Okay then, so we're unlikely to see the refurbishment, BUT... I'm okay with that! We'll be at Disney!!! :cheer2: We're rarely in our room/villa, but it would be nice to see the updates. Can't wait for pictures. :)

Does anyone know if they have done a 'mock up' room yet or is their an artist's impression of what the rooms will look like?! Very exciting! :rotfl:
How many buildings are likely to have been completed by August/September?
Debsx:goodvibes

I'm hoping someone who is there now or in the near future will go ask that question for us!

I wanna know where they will sell the old furniture. Cause you KNOW they will!!

Do you mean buildings 23-26 when you say across from HH? We are booked near the HH in December and I requested buildings 23-26. I'm thinking about switching to non-HH location and requesting a refurbished room. I know there is no guarantee, but it sounds like our chances for a refurbished room will be better in the non-HH area.

I wouldn't request a refurbished room for Dec, because there will be a smaller number of those than non-refurbished rooms. When I said "across from HH", I meant buildings 11-14 and 62-64. The buildings at 22-26 had exteriors refurbed last year (can't remember if it was May or December), so they will be in 'mid refurb' for interiors if that's the same schedule they choose. My theory might be all wet though, so don't change a booking catagory based on my speculations.

I don't know why I didn't think buildings 11-14 when you said across from HH. That makes more sense. I am just going to keep our reservation and building request as is. If we get a refurbished room great, if not we'll have one the next year when the refurbishment is complete. Thanks for the information.
