I read somewhere that they were upgrading OKW.. anyone been down to see this or have pictures of it?

Thinking of staying there in 2011 and wondered if they would be done by then..

I don't think that they have started yet. Last I read it would be later this year.

Last I heard they had started on some of the buildings in the HH catagory. FWIW, OKW is constantly undergoing "renovations". I doubt we have ever been there when there wasn't at least some part getting a spruce up. I think this current round is more of a redo than the others were though. They seem to be replacing siding on the buildings, and lots of other "hard" furnishings like counters etc. I hope they don't ruin the theme decor of the place!

I was looking at our OKW pictures yesterday and that was exactly what I was thinking. I love the decor the way it is. Does anyone know for sure what they're including in this rehab? All I've heard are rumors, nothing definite.

I was in building 21 in January. The first floor 1br I was in had two different fabrics on the sofa and loveseat! That was the first time I had ever seen anything like that. Like someone else said, the buildings across from the HH were cordoned off, so it's probably going to be everywhere eventually. My mattress also sagged big time, so I guess 'everything' in that unit was due for replacement. Even the seats and seatbacks on the dining table was the original fabric, and I have been a member since 1994. It was still OKW, though, and I love it.

We were there last May/June and this past Christmas. We observed similar activity that seems to be ongoing. Just when the finish the last building they start over at the beginning. Kind of like the paint crews for the Golden Gate Bridge. When we were there in May the HH category building on Miller's Road were roped off. It looked like both interior and exterior work was being done. At Christmas those building were open for occupancy. We did notice some areas on the main stretch of Turtle Pond had been spruced up when we were there at Christmas. Our rooms on Southpoint appeared to have been recently refurbished. The decor was fresh and still maintained the OKW Old Florida flavor. :goodvibes

Yes, we noticed our villa in building 14 seemed pretty fresh in December too. The rumor is that this rehab is going to include countertops, flat screen TVs and flooring. No other rumors about what else it might include.

This is much more than a rumor. It was announced at the member's meeting in December, 2009:

During this week's annual meetings it was announced that guest rooms at Disney's Old Key West Resort were scheduled for a major refurbishment beginning in 2010. The project involves substantial updates to the units including the addition of a twin sleeper chair to the larger villas.

Similar to the current refurb at Disney's BoardWalk Villas, the units at Old Key West will receive extensive replacements and upgrades. The project is slated to include the following:

* New carpet
* Wood floors will be refinished
* New blinds and drapes
* Units will be repainted
* New upholstery on sofas and love seats
* Twin-size sleeper chair added to living room (one bedroom and larger)
* Granite countertops
* New cabinet hardware
* Ceiling fans to be replaced
* New lamps in living room and master bedroom
* Current televisions replaced with flat panel units

The refurbishment is scheduled to begin sometime in the spring of 2010 and will run into spring 2011.

The last three times we've had units where there were different fabrics on the loveseat and sofa. All three of those units had the new design sleeper sofas; I just assumed they hadn't gotten around to replacing the loveseats yet. BTW, am I the only on who finds the new sleeper sofas extremely uncomfortable when used as a sofa? I kept finding myself rolling into the corners! :rolleyes:

I am excited to see what the renovated rooms look like. But am I the only one who is disappointed that they are not renovating the bath and shower walls? All of the other resorts have beautiful tile in the baths and showers and OKW has peach colored fiberglass. I thought for sure they would be included in a major renovation.
