Are there dedicated and lock off 2-br units or are they all lock off units?
How many pools are there? I kind of remember the themed pool but then not really. We stayed there 3 nights about 6 years ago, pre joining DVC and I really don't remember much.
There will be 4 children ages 8-17 with us, what will they enjoy?
Do they still have the shuttle to DTD? Is it still a pontoon boat?
Anything else that would be notable about OKW that might be different than VWL or BWV would be greatly appreciated.
I'm planning the trip of a lifetime for 7 others who have never stayed on property and 6 who have never seen WDW. I want to know all that OKW has to offer.
Also, we may want to stay more nights on cash. We haven't nailed down the dates yet but it will be late July/early Aug. Anyone ever gotten a discount this time of year and what type of discount(DVC, DC, AP, other)?
TIA, I'm on psycho planning!

OKW has the main pool - with jacuzzi and sauna- plus three "quiet" pools located at Miller's Road, Old Turtle Pond and South Point.

There is a bus to DD about every 20 minutes and the pontoon boat runs from noon until 9:40pm. It has a capacity of 12.

There is an arcade and some organized activities available at Community Hall, tennis, shuffleboard, volleyball, water mice and other boat rentals available. Fishing is available also.

Behind building 55 is a walkway to DD- it takes about 15 minutes for a pleasant stroll to that area along Trumbo Canal and the golf course.

Every bus stops at the Hospitality House where the main pool, Olivia's Cafe, Goods-to-Go, the Gurgling Suitcase and the Conch Flats General Store are located.

Have a great trip!

There are dedicated and lockoff's at OKW. I don't recall the mix of dedicated vs lockoff's but it was posted in the last couple of days. There are BBQ grills beside all the quiet pools and ice machines at the bus stops other than the Main lobby stop. The grills have picnic tables and use charcoal. I know part of them are covered but don't recall if they all are. There will be a W/D in the 2 BR but also by one of the quiet pools. Pool towels are provided at the pool but sometimes they run out. Members get a 10% discount currently at Olivias.

Thanks Doc and Dean, great tips! Our guests are SOOOOO excited and I want them to have a terrific time. They have no idea what they are in for:teeth:

There is the main pool by the HH with a suana, hot tub and kiddie pool -- as well as the main building which houses the Gurgling suitcase pool bar and community hall and Oliva's,etc. And then there is a quiet pool down Millers road,up by Southpoint and down Turtle Pond rd. The turltle Pond rd pool has the turtle shack snack bar and all the quiet pools have a hot tub.

The vacation homes at OKW are larger and more spacious than those over at VWL or BWV's. You can also park right in front of your unit. The resort is pretty big and spread out but very relaxing and beautiful.

DVC members get a 25% discount when making cash ressies -- If I have that right.

Good luck! Have a great trip!

Old Key West is really, really pretty! The walkways have seashells inlaid in them. The main pool had a play area for the kids with sand and a castle to climb on if I remember correctly. The landscaping is fantasic. Beautiful flowers and trees everywhere. My husand and I love it there. We stayed there last March and they gave us a sheet that listed all the planned activities for kids at Community Hall for the week. There was a lot to do for kids!

We stayed in a one bedroom for one night to try it out and it was huge. Over 1,000 square feet. About the size of our first house!

We're going back in May and I can't wait.
