OKW questions

We are contemplating a stay at OKW in a 1 BR. Barring unforeseen circumstances, my 87 yo mother would be going with us. She doesn't do stairs well. So...

1) Is there a way to guarantee an elevator building or a 1st floor unit? Do I have to book a HA unit? We don't need any of the other HA features. If I don't book HA, and request elevator or 1st floor, am I guaranteed that, or is it like all other requests with no guarantee? Has anyone who's requested elevator or 1st floor NOT gotten it?

2) She would be sleeping on probably the chair bed. She doesn't mind sleeping there, and we don't have enough points to book a 2 BR. Is there a way to guarantee the 2nd door to the bathroom? (I know that's in buildings 30 and up.) We would prefer her not traipsing through the master to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I know it would be a request, but is that request usually met?

1 Your request needs to be addressed "due to medical reasons". Talk to MS and see what they say.

2 Think about it, there are only so many rooms to go around, it has to be vacant on your check in day, matching the size of room and being scheduled available for your dates. You also are assuming that the room assigner knows which units are a certain floor plan.

All buildings at OKW have 1BR villas on the ground floor, so that is an easy request to grant. I would also mention that this is a medical request and ask for a ground floor 1BR in building 30 or higher. You should have a good chance for success. I would also make the request again when you check-in at the resort. They do try hard to meet requests.

My Mom also could not do stairs well, and we only had problems getting ground floor units once.

I would also add to the request to be near a bus stop if you plan on doing parks, and request the Turtle Pond area.

Can someone tell me if there are elevators in any other buildings? When we were there a couple years ago, we had friends who I was sure took me up in an elevator to their unit. And they were in building 17. Last week, we were in building 16, and I hoped for an elevator, but never found one.

The only buildings at OKW with elevators are 62, 63 & 64. Those three building were build about 5 or 6 years after the rest of the resort had been completed, they replaced the original DVC Sales Center (Commodore House) and there had been changes to the ADA during that time which required elevators in new construction.
