Hi! I usually post on the DCL board, so I'm a newbie on the DVC board.

We're staying at Old Key West for the first time and I wondered if anybody had any advice... Good room/bad room... things not to miss, etc.

Thank you!!
Ginny

my family and I stayed there for the first time as DVC members last Nov, by reading a certain book ( the unofficial guide to touring DW), we asked and got what we thought was one of the best rooms, and buildings, as far as I know you cannot be 100% sure of the room but if you ask for building 13 as far as we were concerned it's the best place to be there, your right across from the HH and the last Bus stop. very good place to be when dropped off, enjoy:teeth:

You didn't mention which size vacation home at OKW you'll be staying in, but if you are staying in a 1bdrm or larger unit the best tip that comes to mind is to request bldng #30 or higher;) .
Bldng #'s higher than 30 have 2 enterances to the bathroom -- one through the master bdrm and the other through the laundry room. In bldng #'s lower than 30 there is only one enterance to the bathroom through the bedroom. Not a big deal if only 2 people staying as a couple in the unit but for families or anyone traveling with more than 2 people, it's much more convenient to have the 2nd enterance through the laundry room between privacy issues and not waking up the people sleeping in the master bedroom when traveling to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

OKW is such a great resort you're going to love it! If you get the chance, get a massage and ask for Allison Andrews. She's wonderful - it's our favorite part of vacation:teeth:

Have a great time!!:wave2:

We really like the Turtle Pond area. We always have a rental car, so being close to the HH (main building) isn't an issue. We request water views, they are pretty views with lots of birds, ducks, rabbits.

Thank you for the quick replies everybody!

It's just me and hubby, so we decided on a studio. I didn't know they had water views, but that sounds really nice. The only time we've been on the property was for dinner at Olivia's, so we didn't get to see too much. If we have time, I'd love a massage...thanks for the tip on Allison. :)

Units 45 & 46 offer a great water view of the canal, it's nice to sit there and watch the ferry going by! This is a great spot if you don't need to be close to the HH. Have a great trip!

Thank you everybody!!!!

The Trumbo Ferry is a free ride for OKW members from OKW to Downtown Disney. It runs from 12:00 noon until around 10:00 pm. They have 2 boats continually running and holds about 12 people.

The departures are about 20-25 minutes apart.

Nick -
Is the boat ride for OKW members or can anybody staying at OKW use it?

Thanks!!!
Ginny

Anyone can use it. They only hold 10 or 12 people, so if you have a PS at DD make sure you allow enough time, you may not get on the first boat.
