ever used the grill there?? How large is it and where are they ? We would like to grill for 2 families...trying to decide what size bag of charcoal as well. Thanks in advance for your help!!:goodvibes

We use the grills at OKW almost every trip.

If you use the grills at Turtle Pond pool area, there are covered pavilions with picnic tables as well as more grills. At the smaller pools, the tables aren't covered, and there is generally only one grill.

For charcoal, since you don't say how many people, or how much food, it's hard to say. We usually bring Match Lite-type charcoal from home (we drive), and half a bag, or less, is enough for the 4 of us. This type of charcoal is (or at least was) available at the General Store at OKW.

If you have more than 4 people, you MIGHT need to use 2 grills. Again, it depends on how many people you are feeding.

When we aren't staying near Turtle Pond, we just load everything into the car and drive there.

We also use the grills nearly every trip. The grill itself is probably about 18" x 36" or so - probably big enough for 2 families depending on how much you are cooking. (if you have big families, or are planning to grill meat and veggies, or other things one may not be big enough, but you could put different food at different times)

We love doing BBQ at OKW, because it seems like no one is ever around. We usually have the BBQ area to ourselves, and often the pool as well. (in January - it may be different in warmer months, although we have had no problems getting a grill in June or September either)

Some grocery stores don't carry charcoal at certain times of year, but if you can't find it, the OKW store seems to carry it. (at a premium)

Enjoy your cookout!

Like others, we use the grills almost every time we visit OKW. We usually buy a generic brand of charcoal at the nearby Publix. BUT, if you're lucky like we have been several times, you can "charcoal buddy" with the folks who grilled just before you!

We barbequed while we were at OKW in July at the quiet pool beside building 55. It was a great set-up, a few steps away from the pool. If I remember correctly, there were 3 grills, each with its own picnic table. I put some laundry on to wash and then grilled our food while my husband played in the pool with our granddaughter. It was a very enjoyable afternoon.

Thanks, OP, for this question. My dad is planning a grand gathering of sorts in 2012. The cast will include my parents, my family (Me, DH, princess: 8 and princess: 6), my brother's family (DB, DSiL, princess: 11, pirate: 8 and princess: 7) and my sister's family (Sis, DBiL, princess: 3 and maybe another by then) and we'll all be at OKW. Dad and mom love to camp so the grilling out is a great idea! I'll be sure to mention it to him so he can plan accordingly! I think we're planning our trip for February, if all the kids can get out of school. If not, it's going to be June:eek: !

Turtle Pond pool probably be best area because of number of grills available & if your group is planning to eat outdoors as well there's enough picnic tables ( small arcade there too ). Sounds like a wonderful family trip :goodvibes
